Trying to flip my way to a better collection.

Almost cost me my interest in watches entirely.

Agreed. I'll never understand the idea of buying an expensive watch as an "investment" that just sits in a safe. For me, it's all about the pleasure of wearing and there's a great deal of pleasure to be had in wearing a Kermit.

Buying a smooth bezel datejust brand new at an AD for full retail price rather than thinking a little harder about getting a fluted bezel and checking this forum first.

Corrected less than a year later flipping for a fluted bezel of the same exact watch from one of our respected sellers on this board.

Not having bought a Hulk at the beginning of my interest in watches. I found the price off putting at the time but in retrospective it was significantly cheaper than it is today. To make things worse I'm poorer these days.

Now I only wish Rolex will release a 114060 LV with the 3255 movement.

OK. So I've made many dumb moves...I'm not even sure I could remember or list them all.

But, the really biggest dumb move I have made was blowing all my money at a young age on stupid stuff like stereo equipment and cars and not buying Rolexes for pennies what they would be worth today.

First dumbest thing I did was sell my Speedy Pro to fund a Sub.
Second dumbest was selling a Sub LV that I bought new.

Should have held on to both of those.

Ouch! At least you've corrected your ways now.

I understand selling a watch that had been in your safe. If you're not wearing it, why not sell it to someone who will?

How sad. When I go, all my watches will have specific instructions attached to them.

Did you buy it new for $17k? I've heard you can get serious discounts on Roger Dubuis, but never anything like that.

Lesson learned!
I've been back and forth on what to add next. AP, PM Rolex, etc. I'm worried about what a PM watch around the office may look like. I try to not be flashy, but something about a YG Day-Date just has been calling my name

Not buying a PP 5711 a few years ago when the Canadian dollar was on par with the US.

Telling my wife how much the watches I like cost. Which has severely limited my collection. But also maybe I've avoided buying watches I'd regret, I can think of a couple I was very excited about but didn't buy, and I'm glad I didn't. Ball, Frank Mueller, certain entry level Vacheron's. I see them now and wonder how I could have contemplated them. And I mean the models, nothing wrong with the brands.

Selling my Milgauss was one. Using the proceeds to buy a few Panerai was number two. I know there's a lot of love for Panerai on the forums. I just learned they weren't for me.

I did sell my Breitling as well, but I really regret that. I wore it my entire time in the Navy. I got too caught up in the bad things Breitling was doing and I let it overshadow what was actually a really beautiful two tone Navitimer.

Missing out on an excellent condition, unpolished Red sub, complete with box, documentation and receipt.
I was at an auction last year and backed down after $10k. Hammer price was $12k...

Venice Italy, 1998. Was at the AD deciding between a WG DD or SS Patek 3700. Both were in stock and both were about the same price: +/- $10k. I bought the WG DD, which I still have today.

Today, one can find hundreds of WG DDs in the $10k or so range. Try finding a PP 3700 for that - good luck.

Still kicking myself to this day ...

selling my entire watch collection (omegas, tag) to fund a rolex.

I really miss some of the watches that i sold.

luckly, later after I sold my rolex, I was able to track down one of the watches that I had sold, and was able to repurchased it, but i still regret selling the other watches, and selling the rolex too!

Getting a JLC Reverso Grande Calendar, then finding it's really not versatile enough and flipping it. I bought it for over 25% off retail brand new and sold it, losing around 30% of the price I paid

well,let's see...

-i didn't screw the crown down on my wenger diver battallion 3 and it got water inside and f*cked up the dial,i know it's a cheap watch and all but i really love it and cant find another to buy

i didn't buy a mint omega seamaster "hammer" with subseconds from the 60's for less than 200 bucks

-i didn't buy an oyster perpetual boysize with riveted bracelet for less than 700 bucks

-i didn't buy a tag carrera gmt polar for 600 bucks

-i sold my first swiss,an omega dynamic geneve for 216 bucks because my mother said it was an "old men's watch" (i was like 13) and i went and bought a digital watch

-oh,that watch was a adidas digital black ceramic watch, called the "peachtree" if i'm right, good thing i sold it and bought a suunto m1

-i refused an rolex datejust from my dad two years or so ago because i wanted something bigger

-i don't know if that counts, but sure is a dumb move,i left my corum admirals cup in white gold with diamond bezel on the table of the cafe i was in while i was grabbing coffee lol i'll never forget that, probably the dumbest thing i've ever done

-i tried to change buckles on my gold op and it fell and cracked the crystal

-traded my suunto m1 for a swatch black rebel because i wanted a analog watch, and i tought the plastic watch would be nice

-i sold my gorgeous blue dial seiko 6138

-i didn't buy a seiko 5 "nautilus" blue dial for 130 dollars

for now i think that's it,plenty of dumb moves already for such a young guy lol
