Ruined my new ROC

A cautionary tale. Don’t try to self polish anything on one of these. I was very very very dumb and a small blemish turned into a trip to Clearwater to refinish. I guess I was just used to my Rolex bracelets and gently buffing out a scuff here or there. Nope. Dumb dumb dumb dumb. Don’t be like me. Here’s a pic of my stupidity.

No, used wrist clean's brushed polishing kit. Dumb. It doesn't look that bad head on. This is a pic at an angle to really see it.

Damn..... yeah, you cannot repair the brushed finish on the top of the bezel yourself. Tough lesson but APSC will have it back to you in no time!

Thanks for sharing, though. Please show us the after pictures when you get it back, along with the bill. Hopefully, they'll be fair under the circumstances.

I believe it’ll be about $250 or less since it’s brand new. Polishing on my diver was 250 to polish the whole case.

On the website it says $250 for the whole watch, $100 for a part. I'm hoping they just go with $100, but I'd pay the $250 no prob, just want her back to normal.

Don't worry Mike it happens, good news is it can be repaired. Similar thing happened to me few weeks ago, tried getting sticky gunk off the bridge of my brand new Fender Stratocaster guitar and some of the alcohol got on the amazing Aztec gold paintjob and left some permanent marks. I got very upset but luckily the local guitar store had a very competent tech who said he can fix it without polishing through the original (and very thin) nitrocellulose finish. Came back a week later and it looks good as new now, just like your watch will when it comes back form service.

Ouch... but APSC should be able to fix it. Worse come to worse, a bezel change is still possible.

You are not the only one. I once tried to act smart and "polish" off some faint scratch marks on my DD40 bezel and end up with a ding instead. LOL. But I got used to it after a while.

Early this year I tripped on the sidewalk, broke a finger and my AP chain suffered a large scratch, the watchmaker changed the damaged links , didnt try to polish the bracelet

We all get a bit too OCD at times. If it doesn't come out with simple soap, water, and a clean microfibre cloth... just leave it or bring it to the experts.

I think ANY sandpaper product would be unlikely to match the brushed surface of the Royal Oak, especially in the hands of a non-professional.

When I was in my 20's I used coffee pot cleaner on my dive watch and the chemical had eaten the rubber seals. I don't think you can hold a candle to that stupidity.

The picture looks like a lot of metal was removed...Was it that bad in person?

How is it irrelevant? The OP used their product with bad results. I tried their spray and super-soft brush once on a brand new Rolex and it left it all scratched up. I emailed them about it and their CEO got sh**ty with me.

Take it to another thread, if you haven't done so already?

In this case, the OP screwed up, not because he used WristClean products, but because he tried to "brush polish" the ROC bezel himself. He acknowledges this. How you feel about WristClean, their CEO, and their products is irrelevant to this thread.
