I'd hang in there with it as is. Only 2 types of watches that get worn - those that have dings and those that will get dinged. Sooner or later, when you least expect it, BAM!

I have not. I'm also a vintage guy so I welcome natural wear. But I know others that's pursued this with laww with good results. My only thing is that it's platinum. I would give Edvi a call....Beau's a wizard from everything I've seen in case restoration....70 weeks is not an option hah.... Report back after you talk with them on the phone, I'm curious myself how they handle platinum.

Definitely unfortunate, but I'd leave it alone. That's some serious magnification, and it doesn't look that bad. I chased door dings on a car once, never again.

70 weeks sounds nuts! As beautiful as the watch is (one of my favourite PPs) I respect it even more now it is worn... And one (small IMO) ding would not change that.
Personally I agree that after the first mark I actually become more relaxed wearing a watch. I am sure it can be fixed at service but wear it some more, create some more patina on a beautiful watch, and polish it back to new if you desire at service time.

I agree. Each boutique should have a laser welding guy in-house and should prioritize inane cosmetic requests over actual service issues. On the other hand, some potential Patek buyers being dissuaded wouldn’t be the worst thing either.

Ya very funny but not exactly. Patek shouldn't have an in house laser welding guy obviously, although outsourcing is not too difficult, but quoting these ludicrous wait times is just unacceptable. I have seen similar quoted wait times for service and repairs as well. It's simply not justifiable for a high caliber company charging this much for timepieces. The last part of your response was arrogant and seemed to imply that not everyone is worthy to be in some sort of an elite club of Patek owners.

My Nautilus is a scratch MAGNET. The first one is always the worst. Now, I just kind of expect it.

Sorry for this indeed is a really painful thing, but if you take it back to Patek it would take weeks before you get it back, I would suggest you continue using it that way, polishing it also is not a good idea neither

After much deliberation on the pros and cons of attempting to repair that ding I am sorry but I would only trust Patek to fix it.
Wear it until it is due for a service and push for the shortest turn around.

Supposing you sent it in to Patek, Geneva and they laser fill it and send it back to you a year later. You strap it on your wrist and while leaving the Stern Agency you bang it into the door frame and put another ding into it. Then what?

Dings like this hurt, but you will get over it and ironically it might make you feel more relaxed wearing the watch. I would wait till service to have it fixed. I am not sure I would let someone not Patek laser weld something like this, it might void your warranty and I am no expert but as far as I understand there are different platinum alloys (i.e. the 5% that is not elemental platinum differ) and you at least need to ensure they use the exact same as Patek for laser filling the ding.

I feel your pain but 70 weeks is crazy! I was going to suggest if you can buy a new bezel but its platinum so won't be cheap. Just enjoy it for now I guess.

Try Lange NY. I have small dings on my PT Timezone and Lange NY told me they can laser fill and service the watch.

Bought two AP ROOC's this past August - scratched both of them doing completely innocuous things before September was up. Drove me crazy for a little bit (still does every once in a while) but in the grand scheme of things see them as extra character :)

I spoke to LAWW. Waiting for them to get back to me. If that doesn’t work. I’ll try to suck it up and move on. If not; there goes 20K *♂️

A few days into my 5726 and my cockapoo pulled on the leash which caused me to slam my watch into the doorway as we were exiting.
It’s twice the size of your ding. I was gutted. But I got over it fast. Now I like it. You get that fixed, and it’ll happen again. You don’t, and it’ll happen again.

I wouldnt throw good money after bad. If u are leaning on moving it along snd take the hit. I wouldnt spend money fixing it. I definitly would not send a $90k patek to a non patek service center.
Alternative is to wear it for awhile. Then move it. You going to take the hit anyways. |

I knew it was an easy fix but 70 weeks. That is really too long a time. That bezel while it may look nice worked well on the 30mm 96 and 3796 because it was much harder to bump and dent/ding. On a massive 39.5mm case it dings on everything. On a platinum watch, rounded, concave type bezels work best on larger sizes.

If it still guts you over time, I say just sell it for a loss with the nick on the case. If you have it fixed first and decide to sell it, and you don't have Patek do the work, hopefully you'll make full disclosure at the time of sale. Fixed by someone other than Patek (no matter their reputation), or nicked, I am not sure your value will be much different. I personally wouldn't want to buy any Patek that had been touched by anyone other than Patek, especially if we're talking laser welded cases and a reference of this caliber.

This is a piece you buy to keep. Resale on 5170 has been very soft. I expect the P will be no different. Saw an unworn advertised at 79 which sold. Who knows what that dealer paid for that piece and what it actually sold for. But that tells hard cash on the piece is a ways below 79K.
