Unique Rolex Explorer dial patina

Hello Rolex Forum!

New here and very happy to have finally joined!

So I recently purchased an Explorer 14270 from 1993. Tritium, drilled lugs-
mandatory for a Rolex Explorer if you ask me :)

The dial has this unique kind of spider webbing, though I wouldn't call it spider webbing because the lines are not as irregular as the spider webbing on my GMT or other watches I've seen. These lines seem to have a bit more structure.

Below are some photos of what I am talking about. It can be difficult to see but in the right light, it is more apparent.

Let me know what you think this could be. Thanks!

Congrats on the 36mm Exp!

Wow, I've always been curious as to what causes dial webbing.

Also, I hope to see more 14270s with creamy tritium plots...I dont know why they are so hard to come by.

I own one too and it has only turned slightly eggshell.

Very interesting. I wonder what causes it.

Looks like a spiderweb dial.

My understanding of a spider web dial is an actual fracture in the glaze layer of the paint. I have this on my 1983 GMT and it cracks in every direction.
This, however, does not look anything like that. Also seems odd to happen to a watch from 1993, would you agree?

BTW not bashing the looks I actually love it! Just want to figure out the cause.

It's not a spiderweb dial; it looks more like frosting, which is kind of appropriate for an Explorer, I guess. No idea what causes it, but I have seen it before.
