Should I trade? My 1680 red for a 16520

So i've been offered to trade my 1680 for a 16520 black dial..

What do you guys think? Should I trade it?

My 1680 is in top condition, with a beautiful and even patina.

I've always wanted a 16520 and they are getting more difficult to get each day

As soon as I receive the pictures of the daytona I'll post it here, but it is said to be unpolished and in mint condition, but we will see about that.

Here's my 1680:

I would not do it as I much prefer the 1680. Yours is a beautiful example.

It would depend on a couple things for me....what else is in the collection? Or if one and only? I love both of these references....so in thinking one over the other...no way I’d make that trade. Unless there was something still left in the collection that’d fit the niche of vintage you have, or you just simply wanted to go modern. That 1680 is beautiful!

Both great references & pretty much the same on paper . But the pictures you've posted of your 1680 , scream don't do it . You may have sellers regret, & will struggle to find another example as clean the one you have now .

You'll regret it. The black dialed 16520 is hard to read for one, and you can find one easier
than a beautiful Red like yours.

I agree with the others. Not only no, but HECK NO.

That watch looks as good as something in a museum. No way would I let a piece like that out of my Kung-Fu Action Grip.

Unless you’re 100% sure you’ll someday find Red Sub as nice as this one, absolutely not.

It’s an easy no for me. I have a red Sub and a white dial 16520 and if it came to it, the Daytona would be the first to go.

I would not. The red 1680 is a classic and versatile as hell.

Thank you very much for all the answers. After reading them, my tendency is not to make the trade.

The condition of my submariner is really good, but the daytona that was offered to me is also supposed to be in top condition. In that sense, I would not be trading for a lower quality piece.

Another point that was leading me to consider the trade is the fact that, in my view, the 16520 has more room for appreciation over the years, while I do not know if the 1680 will still appreciate much more. Of course I can be totally mistaken. However, I can not fail to consider the financial aspect involved in this possible trade.

So, thank you all for the answers and as soon as I get the daytona photos tomorrow I'll post on this thread.

Your watch is Stunning... DO NOT DO IT... just one guys opinion.. but seems to echo many others..

one of the few things I have found in my 37 years is this... Trading for something new often results in regret... adding to .. never a bad thing .. however if you truly don't like your current piece and really have no connection that would be the only time I would truly say consider the trade.. but I think down the road you will regret it.

B/C I don't know the current value.. what can you get for your 1680 ?

No, no, no. Think about which one would be easier to re buy... your 1680 Red is really nice and you'd be hard pressed to find another like it in this current market. You can always find a 16520

Keep the Red, no question!
If you wanted to pick up a Daytona in the future, you’d always find one but it’s not an easy task to find a nice genuine Red Sub. The Daytona has no date and pushers that you’ll never use..... AND I have one (only because it has a bit of Red writing!!)

Is it just the picture, or does your hour hand seem damaged?
