But agree with everyone else. If you want it now and have to have it, do it and you will forget about the money factor in a short time.
I joined the waiting list with an AD for a new Daytona when the price was 4,000 GBP.....waited 5-6 years and the final price I paid from the AD was 7,500 GBP. When I decided to join the waiting list the grey market price was between 6,500-7,000 GBP.......was it a good idea to wait? Good luck to the OP with his decision.

Well my 6263 with the black aluminum insert is almost 40 years old and show no sign of bezel insert damage. And cannot understand why you would think a slither of ceramic as being unique. The main reason the Daytona are selling for outrageous prices are down to things like the internet. When the ceramic was first launched it was quoted by a internet watch re-viewer it would sell for upward of 15$-$20 on the market.Hence now most Daytona C are bought then sold to the grey where there are hundreds for sale.Rolex don't care where these watches go once sold at any AD a sale is a sale.Although many manufactures today foo foo the grey market,But truth be told many manufactures would not survive without it,as they are in the business to produce and sell as many units as possible.

Very interesting, does anyone know what list price was for an 116520 back in 2008-2009? I paid $12,000 for mine in 2013 so prices haven’t moved at all in 5 years for the Daytona. A 400 dollar increase to the 116500 we can attribute to the ceramic bezel if anything.

At one point in the early-to-mid 2000's, the Daytona retailed for US$6995!!

I had the exact same feeling!! I actually traded two watches to get one Daytona and some money back in my pocket and as soon as I received the Daytona my only regret was not doing it earlier!!! felt pretty good as well when I got it appraised for insurance and the appraiser actually appraised it for more than I am into it based on our local current markets for the watch.

No point in waiting if you really want it. The price seems to keep going up.

I 'bit the bullet' and paid a premium at the time for my 116500. I'm glad I did now, since the premium is much higher now!

It's funny that people balk at the fact of building a relationship or having to buy a second watch from an AD, but truthfully I would rather spend 20k on a DaytonaC and jewelry for the wife (or a second watch) then 20k on just a DaytonaC.

By doing that you get the DaytonaC at MSRP, another watch / jewelry, and start the relationship with your AD for the future...

If you're passing it down to your kid, wouldn't you much rather have it with your name (or their name) on the original warranty papers? Highly doubt picking this one up grey will get you that.
Great advice, buy a nice watch for 6k to hold you over till the Daytona shows up

Since the requirement seems to be purchasing a PM piece in order to get the chance to buy the 116500 at an AD, I would just suck it up and pay the premium through a gray market dealer.

Personally if you’re planning on having it for lifetime and then passing it down to your children, then I really do not see any harm in waiting a few years on a waiting list. I personally would not pay that kind of a premium If they told me it was a 20 year waiting list on principle alone.

If one is to pay 20K for a watch then it should be a 20K watch. Not a 12K watch with an 8K hype tax.

Nope I would not pay the premium. It’s never too late to start a relationship with an AD. Pick an AD close to you and start showing your face. If they know you are not a flipper, you will have a better chance IMHO. I did this with my 116520 when they were supposedly just as hard to get 11 years ago. I did buy a a SD from them, but it was after I bought some jewelry for my wife and Raymond Weil watch for my mom, that I got the call.

I cannot fathom paying that premium, when you can own a WG Daytona for a few more pennies. Its beyond my comprehension. But then again, most would find us insane.

Do you guys believe a price hike is inevitable here in the next few years—could msrp bump to $15,2 on this?

In short, if you really want this watch and its your grail, ignore the nay sayers and get it. Its a beautiful watch and I doubt prices will go down.
Very eloquently put - I couldn’t agree more

Not only is it in solid gold, it's objectively better looking than the Daytona C and will still hold it's value once the 116500 bubble has popped.....

You would actually buy it at market price, so we may not even talk at buying at premium. So only question is whether you may afford to pay market price. If you are able to, do not hesitate even for a second. That is an asset that would keep on appreciating.

Do not refer to MSRP. That is irrelevant. What matters is market price. And it will keep on climbing up.

Doubt they were SS available at retail for anyone to purchase. If so please let me know the AD so I can fly over on my unicorn.

For all the guys saying it's crazy to drop $20k on a SS watch. It's crazy to drop $1k on any watch. Casino can be brought for a fraction of the price. This is a luxury item, it's how much the watch is worth to YOU. End of story.
