Thinking of selling my 5726A-001

Love the watch but main issue is having trouble reading day/date (trivial I know), but based on what these are going for now, doesn't make sense to keep it around if it's getting no wrist time. Anyone else have one and then sell it and wish you didn't?

I’m not sure anyone can help here
It’s simple, if you like the watch keep it, if not, sell it!

You know I have a 5712 and a 5167R. I really like the 5172 but really do have a problem reading the date so I know what you mean.

If your 5726 was a white dial in steel I might be interested. Best of luck!

I can answer this one! I had the white dial 5726. It was extremely legible in reading the time, which is important as I get older. But after a while, I couldn't read the day and month, and sometimes the date. So I sold it. Regretted it immediately. In talking with a friend recently, I mentioned that watch and another that I had sold. His response was "I can't remember the last time I could read the day and month, but I don't care - I love the watch(es)." I completely agree with him. Even if you can't read everything, you can still appreciate the watch!Just wear it and read what you can.

oh boy... the sad reality that it's mostly people in their late middle ages that could afford such watches like these, but don't have the eyes to actually see their beauty anymore.

haha at least I'm not the only one having issues reading the day/date. Not even 50 yet and squinting the eyes. :-)

I’m hoping to get this very watch in the near future. You will be hard pressed to find another Patek with a larger date window.

Trade down to 5711. Then you've got 1 window rather than the 3 windows plus 1 ring of 5726.

More seriously, if you don't like it as much as before it may be a good time to sell. Who would have thought that even the formerly unloved Nautilus strap models would go to the moon... I'd make a few calls to get a feel for the market.

Trade it for a 5522. Still a Patek, stainless, no fussy date to frustrate the eyes and so legible plus, maybe, some money in your pocket.
Although I love ts3's idea of trading down to a 5711. Probably only cost an additional $30K.

I’m in this category and recently found a new way to enjoy my watches:

Seriously, by the time I can afford one I can't read it. And I'm an ophthalmologist with great vision.

I had one when it first came out and sold it. Wish I still had like so many others that have come and gone. I would keep it if you don’t need the money. I go looong periods where I don’t wear something and then one day it finds it way back into the rotation. I haven’t worn my 5726 white in ages but keep it bec I know I’ll wear it for something.

Pleasure: If you can afford it. Keep it and rotate with other watches. If after a few rotations you see the pleasure wearing it is decreasing, you will know what to do.

Legacy: outside its commercial value, never underestimate the emotion attached to it through events in life or through legacy. If you have kids, etc.

If it is only money parked, now is not a bad time.

PS: I never set the time or the date of my watches when I wear them. It drives my wife crazy, but I see it as the ultimate "horological sprezzatura". Am I an heretic?

Well I have ben there with a JLC Master Calendar. Sold it as part of a package to get my 5711

If you cannot read it and cannot see it then why keep it?

Well I ended up selling the 5726 and it it continued to go up in value post sale but now has come down below my sales amount. So at least I don't feel too bad letting it go. I'm now salivating over a 5168 after trying it on at my AD. The 42mm is oh so nice. And I love how slim it fits vs the thicker 5726. Date window seems to be a little easier to read. Maybe because it's 42mm vs. 40? Anyone own both and can give opinion?

Interestingly, I had also sold my same 5726, but I’ve been missing it dearly over the years. As far as the Aquanaut, yes it’s a little easier reading the date (as opposed to day, month, etc.) and it has a slimmer presence. But I actually liked the relative thickness of the 5726 compared to my other Nautilus and Aquanaut pieces. Regardless, I expect you would love the 5168 a lot more than the 5726.

Sell it. These tiny windows could well be considered a design flaw. That thought alone would be the final nail in the coffin for me.

...which isn't really what's up for discussion here.

Seems like OP made the right choice! Good luck on your road towards the 5168G!
