Better Daily Daytona

Which Daytona do you think would make a better daily? One has a steel bezel which can easily scratch, the other has ceramic but has WG case and clasp.

- Rolex 116520, steel case/clasp, bracelet, with steel bezel
- Rolex 116519, WG case/clasp, oyesterflex, with ceramic bezel

The OF wears very well, you do not even know you have the watch on if its sized right. I would wear the OF as the daily.

OF. Will looks almost scratch free in 5 years given how little surface area there is to scratch.

Also on comfort still better. Assuming wrist fits.

Big fan of the 519. So much going for it, and much more unique than the 116520.

Both are great, but for daily, I'd go full SS

I like the traditional Rolex bracelets too much to give that up for osyterflex.

500 vs 519 is a tough call. but since you're comparing against the 520 my vote would be for the 519. The ceramic bezel, heft, and dial of the 519 are the main reasons. Plus the oysterflex makes the watch less flashy and less prone to scratches.

I have both and can quite happily say the 519 get's the daily wear.
I will admit (and likely to cause some ill feeling) that I do have it protected with the InvisiLab protection stickers (which I must say are pretty good) and as such do reduce the scratch anxiety that I've developed over the years!! I never used to be bothered, but I guess as my investments into PM grew, the justification to keep it looking fresher for longer became more of a factor.

Since I got my 16613LB back from Rolex service 6mths ago it hasn't even been worn or service stickers removed. My 116520 is due back anytime soon and similarly won't be worn. Sad really these are now being preserved than worn... 1st world problem I know!

Also, on a practical note... being a desk diver, the rubber OF bracelet is unnoticeable on wrist compared with the constant clacking of the metal bracelets on my glass desk.

Of the two choices it is the WG model. I prefer the SS Ceramic though.

The WG is going to hold up much better, with ceramic bezel and OF bracelet.

But, for a daily wearer, steel is tough to beat. You've just got to be able to get past the scratches.

If you can keep the steel bezel scratch free, then the 520, but it's one of those watches that doesn't look good scratched IMO

It's technically a bracelet, with metal in it.

This is worn daily by my wife, it's pretty scratched but considering what it has to go throw it's holding up well

I think the idea of a gold watch on a rubber bracelet is ridiculous.

Of course, that's just me. I suspect one or more of you fellas and gals might disagree.

Natch the best daily Daytona is a Speedmaster.

I wear the 116520 quite often and love it. The SS bezel is no where near as dainty/scratch prone as sometimes portrayed. I do like the OF Daytonas, but feel a Daytona on bracelet is always better. On bracelet, Daytonas are superbly balanced in feel on the wrist. The OF is a nice substitute to a proper bracelet though and the best "strap" out there imo.

I think this is a good question. Before I got the 519, I would never have thought of a WG Daytona as a daily, but on the OF (once you get it sized right), it is extremely comfortable, well balanced, & actually is a great daily wear! If the choice were the 116520 vs. the 509 (full WG bracelet), I would have voted for the 520.
