Just to clarify, the palm dial will be discontinued in April.

Even after Rolex technician confirmed it on this very same thread.

Have prices already gone up because of this (rumour)?

Which motif dials are you talking about anyway: Palm, fluted or both?

With most discontinuations there will still be incomings trickle in for a little while for the last of the stock and some ADs will have some in the safe. We saw that with the older Daytona last year

That would be too bad, as I really like the mint green fluted motif dial, hoping my AD can find me one if this info is true!

I love my blue fluted motif dial!

When Rolex announce "internally" that a watch is being discontinued, production gets ramped back until it gets to zero and new watches / dials / variants, yet to be even announced, start to get made in their place on the production line so they can be ready for immediate sale after the new model announcements. As others have stated, it stays on the Rolex website until the new "refresh" occurs - usually at W&W in march then after Instagram announcements of new models at other times of the year. Watches take time to go through QC and then distribution - e.g. Australia is often 6 months behind USA and Europe. ADs will already know their allocations for 2024 so will know they've been allocated few or zero of these watches. If they have some in the safe then you might still get one if you have status. If an AD knows they have the last ones allocated but not yet arrived, they could still arrive Q2 or even Q3 (unlikely), so again, technically possible to still get one.

I had an unrelated chat with my SA today. Without me asking he offered up the same rumor, no more YM2 or motif dials, implied that it came from their rep.

So strange. It appears Rolex has announced a discontinuation to the AD network a couple months in advance. I’ve only been in this game 7 years, but I can’t recall this ever happening before. Usually the ADs find out this info the same time as the general public.

Enough credible people are echoing it so I am a believer.

Glad I picked up my Olive Palm Motif dial recently. It’s a great watch.

So tempting to pick one up knowing it’s getting discontinued, but will have to fight the urge

Like all special editions, when they come out there is great demand, After the initial surge, it dies back until they are sold at a discount. This is because most people want conventional. In th3 case of the motif, it is more difficult to read the time IMHO

This doesn't occur with rolex, because everything gets sold, but still rolex doesn't want to push dead ducks. It prefers waiting lists, rather then dealers scrambling around to find buyers

Yours is lovely

I actually like many of the motif dials. The champagne and the blue ones are particularly nice

It is good news for you, as the value will probably increase

The motif dials have been hardly driven in. They were recently (2022 or 2023) introduced to the 41 mm datejust range. I wouldn't put my money on their discontinuation. You guys do realize that many people can gain monetarily when they do spread rumours about speculative assets (which watches shouldnt be).

Should they really discontinue the fluted motif dials they might come up with a kind of "celebration fluted motif dial" where every color of the previous fluted motifs is represented. A bit daring for a Datejust but not completely unrealistic if you look at some of their recent releases. What do you think?

Really interesting idea. I know Rolex had to develop the laser technique for the palm and motif dials so I can't imagine them no making either new designs or new iterations.

I can see certain watches and configurations remaining on the website while they are still selling them. Who knows when production has actually stopped. If production stopped, says January 31, it would make sense to keep them on the website for a while longer. So, discontinuing something isn’t necessarily mutually exclusive from having it still on the website.

That being said, I wasn’t a fan of the palm dial. I still haven’t seen one in person, and here in LA I pretty much see everything (including a WG/oysterflex Yachtmaster yesterday). If I were a landscape architect, however, it would actually be the perfect watch.

Mercedes discontinued a certain car for 2024. As of last night, the Mercedes website still has the configurator up for the 2023 model.

Just because something is discontinued doesn’t mean its value will increase

Yes indeed and despite saying it back in February with written confirmation from an AD TRF still didn't believe it

I thought this thread might pop back up, although the general consensus is that AD's know nothing, this is what my AD's told me before Watches and Wonders this week,

1, All DJ motif & palm dials will be discontinued (Rolex rep told them)
2, OP range watches would NOT be discontinued as they had confirmed allocations for 2024.
3, Watches and Wonders was going to be a low key release year!

Seems to me that some AD's know more that us, albeit no real detail!

More than one AD told me directly that in an unusual move they had a conference call with Rolex back in February and were given this information. It is not normal for ADs to be told of discontinuations in advance so I do understand the scepticism on TRF but it was very clear to me that in this case the ADs were given this information to manage their customers expectations on the motif dials especially and perhaps we are seeing a change in how Rolex deal with their ADs. Interestingly my AD also told me about the upcoming production slow on the BLRO about a year ago after being advised directly by Rolex. At no point did they said it would be discontinued but that it would be paused for a while.

Yeeeahh -- good thing you're not a gambling man then. Ha! Ha! Ha! That comment sure didn't age well. And I'm man enough to admit that I'm pretty disappointed. I was looking to get a DJ 41 two-tone yellow gold jubilee with either a motif or palm dial in champagne. Ugh. Thing is so damn beautiful. Whatever...that's life. If I can stomach the premium, there's always the secondary market, I guess...wonder how much they're going to be selling for now??? Ha! Ha! Ha!
