Will she notice???
Alright guys, let's take some bets. Trading up from my PAM 48 to the 233. Does my wife notice that I'm wearing a new watch ["Seriously, another new watch?! What was wrong with the old one?!"] or does it fly safely under the radar as the same old Panerai? Is the 233 awesome enough that I don't care if I get busted?

It's your wife, not the IRS. I think you'll be ok.

If she doesn't notice, I'll also be checking ads for 233's. Please let us know what happens!

I switched a 104 for a 111 and my wife did not notice. Technically you are not getting another watch if you are trading one for another. You can fib a bit and tell her that they are roughly 'equal' in value as the 48 is auto and the 233 is manual!
But hey, no better way to go out than with a 233 on your wrist!

She probably won't notice unless she's really into watches. Buy a new shirt, she'll spot that right away.

If she asks...
...just tell her you left your PAM on the dash and the crystal "rose" like a soufflé* and the cyclops slid off... *Okay, that was most probably politically incorrect... Make sure to post pics as soon as it lands on your wrist

just get her a small nice gift, it will be ok. when i came home with an Explorer, she was shocked a little but that's only a few minutes thing. then when i took home a Panerai, i showed up with her Mac Pro, nothing had ever happened! LMFAO.
so for my wife, as long as it's something valuable down the road (don't matter if it's mine or hers) she is ok with it. for me, i just have to play this game as a surprise, i won't tell her what im going to buy, instead i'll just bring home and show her. since it is a done deal, she can't really say anything anyway. |

Really, I've done the same with Canon cameras. Bought a battery pack on an old D30 for the "bulk" and shape which then became a 10D which then became a 1D which became a 1D Mark II.
As for you, you're probably good for at least awhile because of the weather [long sleeves]. It probably depends on how closely she looks at it. My wife doesn't really care but can certainly tell a Navitimer from a Portuguese. Thinking of a 072 which unfortunately doesn't look like anything in my current collection. |
