The speckles in these pictures are micro-cracks in the vintage T19 super dome. In sunlight at the right angle you can see all of the imperfections within the plexiglass. I have the original T19 crystal that came with the watch but it will not pressure test so will not go back on the watch. Also was able to pick up a NOS backup tropic 19 to use after this one eventually fails testing. After that all of the T19's will be so old will have to look at the shaped crystal options that try to mimic the T19 profile. The original T19's have a much nicer look than the service crystals but these days you really have to pay up for these.

Last night was my Daughters Bat Mitzvah

Marks Watch was on my wrist for another of life's milestone. Very proud of my daughter and it was comforting to look at the watch and feel like I was still connected to all of my family who are no longer with us.

I slid my suit cuff up a bit during the family pictures, will see if the photographers captured any good pictures with the watch.

PIP restored by LAWW

LAWW restored a PIP for me with the vintage color and lume matched tritium paint. Installed it last night and thrilled with outcome. My thanks to them for their expert work. Edvi at LAWW is their contact person and has been great to work with.

Post of the year...what a great story. I wish I could have met Mark, looks like he really enjoyed life. The story you have told is even better than the fabulous watch. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you

Really appreciate all of the kind comments. Quick picture I snapped this am when pulling into work. Find myself checking my wrist just for an excuse to look at it, not even bothering to see what time it is.

Father to son 1966, 5513

This is a great story and the ending is really special, I can identify with this as I too own my fathers Rolex and just had it properly restored after years of owning it.

It is something that I wanted to do for a long time, but I am very grateful I didn’t until I found the right person.

The feeling of accomplishment after properly restoring an heirloom like this is very satisfying.

This watch was stored away for many years until the owner decided to look into having it serviced. When the watch arrived, it was missing original hands, bracelet, dry and dirty. Were able to source NOS hands, 66' stamp 7206 bracelet and get the watch running to Rolex specs. One other thing I noticed about this watch, was the dial. In certain angles, you will see how a portion of the dial has started to fade to a light tropic color. Overall, a really cool piece to be passed down from one generation to another.

Totally agreed. What model did you inherit from your father?

160133 - bought new in 1986 when he took his first Bank CEO job in Dallas TX. I inherited it in 98, similar scenario, he died in a car wreck with it on his wrist. I cleaned the blood of if it.

I like to say that I would take a bullet for it, but I have never been robbed at gun point so I don’t know for sure. When I was younger I let a local watchmaker polish/customize it which I regretted for years. LAWW restored it for me, but I used the wrong color date wheel which is a bit comical. It is ALMOST finished, once it is perfect I can forget the fact that I bastardized it at one point.

Absolutely Love the story and Wow Phillip did an Amazing job with the service! The Submariner is so Beautiful. I love reading personal, meaningful stories about watches and the connections we have with them! I too have my fathers Rolex Datejust that he purchased back in the early 1980’s. Here’s a picture of my dad holding my brother and I Wearing the watch.

This is a good story. I just bought a submariner that will eventually be my son's. It's his birth year and it's immaculate.

I'm still not comfortable with the idea of wearing it every day. I've really never worn a watch and just can't get comfortable with it on my wrist.

I absolutely plan to wear it on special occasions and vacations and the occasional night out with the wife.

I also live in a really small, rural town and have a couple businesses. unfortunately some people are judgemental and I have no doubt it would cost me business. I know that sounds bad but it's true. No sense in taking a chance. I know that won't fly well with some on here but it is what it is

So, I don't think I'm going to have any cool story for my son to share some day but it was still could be a nice heirloom to pass down.

One never forgets cleaning the blood off.

LAWW did great job restoring it. Wear and enjoy. Also, make sure your kids know its significance so they can appreciate it when it is theirs someday.

Dial shot

That Phillip Ridley took when he was working on the watch. The early gilt dials are just so pretty.
