Thanks for posting this here. I did come across your great write up when I was researching the watch. As you say, I was on the fence until I saw one in the flesh and I was sold

Very cool. That's why I make those writeups. Just for the love of watches (and Rolex watches).

Such a great watch, enjoy!

Just thought..
It would have been cool if they put a meteorite dial on the YM...
Would have been nice with the PT bezel.

What happen to YM 126622 prices on the grey market? When I bought a YM from an AD last summer, the prices in the grey market were about the same as MSRP. Now it's about $18k.

Curious, did Rolex stop using this crown etch at some point? My GMT (purchased 2008) has it, but I cannot find it on my YM40 anywhere??? Purchased from my AD in October '21. I'm just a little confused. Thanks!

False alarm…..it’s there, right where it should be. It’s just insanely less prominent than the one on my GMT. The only reason I even looked is that I got a new iPhone 13 Pro and was playing around with the macro lens, which is AMAZING, and I couldn’t find it. Had to look again in direct sunlight and it was there.

I agree; it's much harder to find on newer watches.

Had to wait 6 months for it last year, they doubled in value on the grey market since then.
The rhodium dial really pops in the sunlight!

Same! Submitted my "order" 3/22/21 and got the call 10/12/21. But I was/am completely happy with that timeframe. Considering my last Rolex purchase (same AD) was back in 2008 and I walked in to see a GMT sitting in the case AND got a 5% discount, things have changed significantly. But my SA said he'd have it for me in 3-6 months, so he was pretty close.

I got the ss/platinum 169622 in 2/01. It’s hard for me to capture the textured grainy/pebbly texture in a photo as others have here. It’s an extraordinarily comfortable, versatile, and durable watch.

Does anyone know when and why the platinum dial was discontinued? Not enough color contrast?

I know some people buy these aftermarket stickers to protect against scratches, but I'd honestly be more worried about potential discoloring from the glue used on those stickers and what happens once moist/dirt gets trapped underneath for a longer period of time.

(Some of my watches even still have slight marks from where the Rolex stickers were on)

It's highly likely that the stickers and adhesive will yellow over time since the base material is probably polyurethane. Any dirt/moisture build up will cause the stickers to delaminate and fall off.

I still have the factory stickers on parts of my YM2. It's probably inevitable that some residue/marks will be left behind when the stickers are finally removed.

With that being said, I'm a natural klutz and it is my most expensive ever watch purchase. I'd like to preserve the condition of it for as long as possible, yet still be able to wear it without having to worry about getting it all banged up.

Absolutely love my YM2. Such a handsome watch.

This reference has started to really get to me, all these pics are not helping!!, Blue looks amazing with the red lettering and second hand, more sporty, the rhodium/slate with the baby blue lettering and second hand looks cool!, more dressy? IMO, why Im struggling to decide on which one.
