Icon20 SS Rolex Daytona .. The 6 Month Wait MYTH

I've been seeing this posted for a while.. are people having that much of a problem finding Daytonas?

Whenever I need one I can find it within a day or so

I think if you are known customer they are not hard to come by, this might have something to do with the fact they do not really command a profit in the secondary market anymore

Easily readible here in the city... Just go into any AD with the funds, ask, and you can have one in a few days as well. It's all about the relationships.

Glad to know it's some kind of a myth! Could this depend on some contacts at AD's one can have perhaps?

Main problem was/is: finding one at MSRP.

Doctor, AD's are forbidden to sell above Rolex MSRP. The old adage ask and ye shall receive bodes true in the SS Daytona folklore... It is fun to believe a modern piece is rare though.

Didn't think ADs can charge more than msrp. Thought Rolex will pull their dealership if they did that

if he was planning on selling, telling people they are not rare would be an odd tactic

I've turned down at least five since the summer and could easily bag a score of them within a month.

I'm not a dealer or trader even.

I bet a single phone call to a seller here on TRF would get you one delivered to your door within a week,no sweat.

I think a lot of folks expect to walk into any AD and pick up one. My experience is, you would need to call different ADs with funds available ready and it should not be a hard thing.

it depends where you live and if you have a relationship with the AD. Otherwise, it is readily available.

My friend was looking for a white faced stainlesss Daytona. He went to a dealer and had one shipped to him in 3 business days.

Cash trumps all. If you show it to the AD, rest assured they will deliver. If not, just shop here in the FS section. You can always find the better deals.

Just did some research. Rolex frowns upon discounts but they are not against the rules. If they are charging over MSRP contact Rolex because that is a no no.... Several places were charging over msrp for peices but that doesn't mean it's complying with Rolexs rules.

It all depends on where you are and who your ADs are.

I could get a Daytona shipped in because I previously purchased a different Rolex; someone off the street can't.

This is not unlike the way many Ferrari dealers will not sell you a new car unless you've made a previous purchase from them. (Seriously.)

My AD has both black and white in stock. At 10% discount. The market has cooled a bit. No myth there.

Not a problem

A while back I walked into a local dealer and asked about a Daytona and was told I could have my pick of black or white dial as he had both in the safe. Price MSRP - no problem.

If your dealer bleats about waiting lists and premium pricing - go elsewhere.
