Better to own one Rolex?
Have you ever considered if being a one watch (Rolex) person is better than owning a large collection of similar looking Rolex?
Would it be preferred to inherit your Dad’s watch or one of his watches? I often wonder this |

Up to you really. For me I care not about the numbers, I like interesting exemples and owing 20 or 1 doesn’t really make a difference when you think about it.
You can only wear one at a time. Having multiples is just the agency if wearing something different according to your mood. |

Two is one, one is none.
At least that was what I kept telling my wife to get my second Rolex. |

I only own one Rolex watch.
For 20 years that’s what I did, in the last few years I became influenced by this forum and all the watch collection talk so went down that road. I’m now back to one best and only watch and will stick with this way from now on, however much I spend whether it’s £10000 or £50000 I much prefer to own one special watch than 5 average ones that don’t mean so much to me |

All the time
I’m just not sure how I could make it happen now I’d have to have at least 2. Probably a blue dial wg Daytona and a patek 5970r However there is something very alluring about a simple 114060 / 124060 for a one watch easy life. |

My friend has a stainless steel datejust given him by his dad some 40+ years ago. He wouldn’t swap it for a dozen Daytona’s or whatever. |

A subjective post - so yeah - totally depends on your style.
For me : I have a couple of really nice watches...and only one wrist.

I had a number of Rolexes as well as other brands. Now I’m down to only a Sub date. I feel a bit more content. Now I’m wondering if I even need a Sub date.

Would love to be the inheritor of a do-it-all Rolex from an older relative! I do think it might have changed my watch enthusiasm trajectory (not sure in which direction!). Alas, no prior Rolex (or other luxury brand) owners in my humble family's history. Best I can do is my dad's poorly functioning Seiko 5 from the 70s that I misplaced when I was younger. Would love to find it and get it serviced so I could wear it.

Yes as far as inheriting dad's timepiece. I had mom and dad's matching 1970 OMEGA Dynamic timepieces compassionately restored (keeping as many original parts as possible). As for what you hand down, ask the kid(s) what they like. jmho

One watch? No I could see dropping down to two or three watches at some point with only one being a Rolex. I love Omega and would have a tough time not owning one. My guess is one day I will have one Rolex (probably dress), one Omega (probably sport) and one sort of beater/travel watch and that will be it. |

I consider this daily, to be honest. The only Rolex currently in my collection is a Explorer 39mm that we bought the morning after our wedding before packing up and flying to Aruba for our honeymoon. I'll never let this piece go and will pass it on to one of my kids someday. Other than that I also have a Speedmaster Broad Arrow, a PAM050 my grandfather's Citizen and a few beater G-Shocks. Oh, and the first watch I ever owned, a Boston Bruins watch on a leather strap that my dad bought for me at my first Bruins game when I was 6.
I'll forever be lusting after a Daytona and occasionally almost find myself purchasing a no-date Sub as a form of settling since I don't think I'll ever get a call for a Daytona. Needless to say, for many, the Explorer is a great watch for a one watch collection.

I'm realizing I don't need as many watches as I have, even at 7....
1? Probably too few. 3-5? yeah I could live with that. I'm considering it currently anyway..... Maybe it's Time.

I've always been intrigued by the simplicity of owning a single watch but have never been able to pare back to that extent. I've settled on the belief that a three watch collection is optimal for me (with an attempt to minimize redundancy across the pieces)

Recently reduced to one. We will see how this experiment goes. Movement is being serviced at the moment so I actually have 0. Going a bit crazy waiting. Definitely a struggle of a 1 watch guy.

Think the Rolex line is so deep you can get away with a 'minimalist' one gmt/sub, one daytona, and maybe one DJ/DD.

A collection can be fun, but there's something to be said about the simplicity of having one piece you really like and always wear. For me its the SD43. Tried a wealth of other models but the 43 is the keeper for me. I like putting it on and not worrying.
