Well I don’t go diving, fly aircraft through multiple time zones, time races, explore caves/polar regions or own a yacht, so a timepiece for me only has to tell the time. For this, my Explorer and DateJust serve me adequately. The Explorer may be a bit overkill however, as my exploration is limited to the darker corners of my shed.

There have always been people who can act on their own initiative and others who need to be told what to do. There have always been people who are comfortable in their own heads and go their own way, and people who have to look, dress, think and buy like everyone else because they are desperate to fit in, or to have have bragging rights, or to appear attractive, or whatever.

I doubt that the ratio is shifting significantly (but I don't know this) but the size and reach of online "influencing" has now made it easier for the susceptible cohorts to fork up more and more money or worse, get deeper in debt.

I too thought I was alone in my antipathy towards B&J until reading this thread! One can sometimes be pleasantly surprised here on TRF!

You tubers don’t give rat’s a** what anyone thinks, as long as watchers hit the “like” and “subscribe”, so they can MAKE MONEY from YouTube (ergo you)
Many of them look like they’re just out of high school. Hardly the best people to make a multi-thousand dollar decision from. If this forum teaches anything, it shows how diverse peoples opinions and tastes really are.

Having said that, whatever floats your Boaty McBoatface

I don't think its the Youtubers problem with whether or not you like or don't like the watch. Not every watch is for everyone.

As a simple no bs sports watch, you really don't need more than an Explorer. It can handle water, it can take a beating, and you can wear it pretty much anywhere.

Technically speaking all the other models, with rotating bezels, complications, and even a date is not really required. (i.e. 99%/strong majority of Rolex individuals won't even get their Rolex wet, let alone dive with it). You just need a solid watch to tell time and could pretty handle most situations.

I think the OP's definition is influenced by the market/background they are from. I have relatives from HK and I can assure you their definition of a perfect Rolex is far different than what North America thinks. Lifestyle of yourself and your environment speaks more towards what you perceive is sufficient or not. Are you looking for good sports watch or are you looking for something that screams I own a Rolex?

You are watching a Youtuber not from your market and environment so naturally their thinking is going to be different.
