Sub-C vs GMT IIc
I plan to buy a new watch next year. I don't decide the model yet but for now the GMT IIc is the only candidate. However, it seems to me that Glidelock of Sub-C is better than Easylink of GMT IIc and it's easier to adjust, and the Chromalight looks cool too. I'm not interested in GMT function but I might use it in the future.
Nevertheless, now I have a Sub No Date, so I concern that Sub-C will look too much similar and I don't much like the chunky look of the Sub-C's case. The GMT IIc's case looks perfect to me. What should I buy between Sub-C and GMT IIc? Please suggest. Thanks. |

The best thing to do is to try both on.
Good Luck! |

from your description, it seems that you are already set on the GMTiic. I would say go for it. but if you have a chance, try them on side by side to confirm your selection.
the more robust case of the SubC is probably kinda like an acquired taste and not for the masses. Either watch is a winner IMO |

Gmtii-c
The Sub-C's glide lock had me hooked. After looking at the function, how often are you going to adjust it for your wrist?
I chose the GMTII-C over the Sub-C because the easy lock offers enough fine adjustment, smaller clasp fitment, PSL and 24hr bezel function/look. If you go with the GMT you'll have a new style (case, dial, etc.) You already have classic sub, go with two different looks. |

With the Sub no date already in your possession, go for the GMT!

I have both and would favor the Sub-c with the glide-lock bracelet. If you don't need the 2nd time zone function, that's a consideration too, since I find it a bit of pain to reset if not kept wound, but on the other hand you don't have to set the "green arrow" if your not tracking another time zone and in such case it's just there for looks. The Sub-C is also a little thinner and lighter and perhaps more comfortable. One final thought is the polished center links on the GMT II-c are really susceptible to scratches (and I'm super careful), whereas the Sub-c links are all brushed and much more forgiving.
Other than that, the 2 watches share pretty much the same overall technical features. So it comes down to a matter of taste and appeal. In my case I choose the Green Ceramic Submariner as an alternate watch, to have a different look than the GMT II-c....but again, it's a matter of taste. If you buy new through an AD, make sure you can return it within a reasonable time with no re-stocking fees, caveat: generally you can't return a watch which has been worn and if the bracelet has been sized with links removed ("Altered" as they call it, although they won't tell you that and try to get you to size it right away to lock in the sale). So just live with it a week or 2 around the home (look at in various lighting and gently/loosely wear, but not outside) and decide, then you can have it sized should you decide it's the one! Good Luck and enjoy the search!! |

Same situation
I thought the new Sub ceramic is definitely an improvement vs the older model.
I've had several Sub dates over the years and wanted a different look. I bought the GMT II Ceramic and it's still in the box unworn. I intend to go to a Rolex AD and try both on again. I'm not sure I like the bold 24 hour numbers on the bezel. The green hand is fine. I have a Daytona so the polished center links are no surprise. I am glad I sold my coke 16710 as the ceramics bracelets and 914 steel are superior to the recently retired models as is the 3186 caliber and maxi dial and the new case sits flatter on the wrist. IMHO, choose the watch that appeals to you most. That's what I intend to do. |
