Call Came, Need Advice!

My AD just called to let me know the 5164R has arrived.
It definitely wasn't 1st on my wish list but nevertheless it's pretty amazing to get "the call".
I need your help, it's a Rose Gold model so it's definitely not a cheap one but at the same time given the market if I pass I may not get another call from this AD again.. and maybe it's a piece I'll regret passing up. But again definitely don't have the money to be throwing around for fun.
Much appreciated!

What other pieces were you looking for? If i was you, i would at the very least go and view the piece and then decide. the 64 is one of my all time favourites (i find the aquanauts better than nautilus). The rose gold finishing is quite nice and with great combo with a brown dial

Pass. You don't want the watch. You're happy to be getting the call but not one favorable comment about the ref. Lots of buts in your post.

Regardless of whether your AD wants to get the piece out the door and is focusing on you, you said you don't have money to be throwing around for fun. Save your ducats for a piece you really want.

Here is the way i read this:

If you reject the piece, there might not be another call...

If you accept the piece, you might not like the piece since it isnt your first choice...

However, this model is easy to flip with no loss should you not like the piece...

Flipping a sports model might get you blacklisted in the future... Which would be the same outcome to if you rejected the piece...

All fair points. I do like the reference (5164) esp the functions but the rose gold is definitely what makes it pricier and ultimately hard to execute. I would definitely jump on the 5164A in a heartbeat. I never thought Rose Gold looked great on me against my rather tanned skin tone but again I'll definitely have to go down and try it on in person. I guess there is the 5167A?

I actually stopped reading after this.

Sad that ADs make people buy watches they don´t want or need just to stay on the 'list' for other hot references.

I read it as being on a wish list, albeit not the first choice.

Also, 5164r is another sports ref, selling for a premium on the market.

I wouldn't call this out on the AD at all... Unlike previous instances of AD telling customers to purchase a Calatrava

I'm definitely not calling out the AD and I'm not sure what the situation is if I don't end up taking the watch but I acknowledge that there is definitely a big chance I may not get another call from this particular AD regarding other references I've previously wish listed. And given the market unfortunately, I understand why the AD wouldn't..

Wondering if and why you got on the list for the 5164R in the first place given that you don't really want it. If you were on the list and your preferences changed while waiting you could have kept the AD in the loop before getting the call, no harm done, preferences change. But I know... easier said than done... Where is my phone... LOL...

I am in the minority of those who dislike the 5164 as I don't like the left-side pushers and prefer to do travel time math between my ears...

It is a cool watch and if you have the funds why not. I would check the pre-owned prices and contact a couple of Trusted Sellers to see what you can step out for. If you are not going to get hurt financially then why not play the game. Stay on the lists for some other watches and go on with it. If you do not want it then pass as nice as possible.

If your relationship is good and you don’t want it wait for the watch you do want, in the past year I’ve turned down a blue aquanaut and a black dial Daytona.

If it a watch you WANT - then get it. If you don’t - which you seem a bit hesitant then I would pass - and tell that to the AD. Along with what you really want.

If you DO get the R and are really wanting something else - you’ll probably ‘reset’ yourself in the ‘queue’.

I think your ad will actually appreciate it more if you are just honest with him and say you want to wait for the watch that is perfect for you, and that you are unsure if the 64r would be a keeper.
That way he will know that you are serious and not buying to flip.

Seems a pretty easy choice, pass on the piece and tell your AD why and what you are waiting for!

Why would you ask to be put on a list for a watch that you cannot afford? My advice, pass on the watch and take whatever is coming to you. Lesson learned

Reading the OPs first post, it doesn’t sound like he specifically asked to be on the list for this watch. It also doesn’t sound like he can’t afford it, it’s just that he may be saving the money for a watch he wants more. Or like me, despite being able to afford more watches than I own, I have other financial priorities too so I try to find a balance.

That being said, I’d go along with most here. I’d look at the watch in person and if it didn’t sing to me I’d pass.

No one needs a luxury watch. Buy what you enjoy, and enjoy it.

I would be honest with the AD, and tell him you don't want it. With it being such a hot reference he would im sure prefer to give it to a client that truly would enjoy it. Don't see how that would reflect poorly on you.

I think its a gorgeous watch and would buy it but from your tone it sounds like you should pass.

If you don't like it just pass and tell your AD why.you had a change of heart. I'm just curious why they gave you a purchase opportunity on this model unless you told them you were interested.
