Sucks to hear that. You must be frustrated. Relative? Covered by insurance?

I know the feeling well and it is not going to feel better for a while - like getting over a bad illness.
Hope recovery x2 comes - that is, the sticky fingers has regrets and it mysteriously reappears. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I think the worst thing about this is that it crushes your faith in human nature a bit and forces you to face the sad facts of life - that you need to be that bit less trusting. We will be listing our house soon and I am aware that I will need to collect all the valuables and lock them away somewhere secure when the inspections begin.
Even sadder if it is someone you know that is the culprit.

Very sorry to hear that.... Terrible! I understand your feeling of disappointment
Out of curiosity - where was the watch stolen from (eg. your bedroom)? Was this like a family / friend gathering or a larger party where you didn't completely know some of the people who were at your home? |

Sorry to hear about your loss.
It’s an odd and difficult situation to find yourself in when a dear possession and your trust is lost.

I’ve had stuff stolen from me where I was sure who’d done it and years later I discovered it had been someone else... It’s tough if you don’t lock it in a safe. It could’ve been missing much longer than you think or someone else could’ve taken it or you may have hidden it somewhere and forgotten about it. Take some time to think about it and make sure you’re barking up the right tree is my advise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had once several valuable and rare pieces of a collection stolen, not watches. Must have been done by somebody I know, never was sure.
I never got over it and ended up with selling the remaining part of the collection. Said goodbye to all the “friends” and never looked back. If I only knew who ... Still makes me sick thinking of it, probably not what you wanted to hear. Hope you deal with it better than I did.

Such is life and it is a shame that we must deal with such incidents. Anything can happen but we must also make sure we do our part. If you would have secured the watch it would not have been stolen. If you had insurance you would be covered for the loss. I am not blaming the OP but we must do our part in securing our property and ensuring that we minimize the opportunity for victimization. And even doing that we will still have issues. Three thing must be present for a crime to occur, a perpetrator, a victim and an opportunity. Remove any one of these and you do not have a crime or incident. Learn from this bad incident and move on.

Very lousy.
We have had thefts from different housekeepers in the past. It’s a shame. I feel your pain and am sorry this happened. If you ever want to vent I’m always happy to lend an ear. |

Jewellers Mutual available for US and Canadian residents only ; covers pretty much any kind of theft (international too) so you’d get immediately replaced or refunded. Costs 1% of the value of the watch per year.
Sorry to hear your predicament but life goes on and another paycheque will come in; the best we can do is to make sure the emotional damage of the loss doesn’t spread to things like relationships and to never let this type of loss happen again. Make a report ASAP to Rolex so the watch will forever be on a stolen watch list. All the best! |

Sometimes learning a persons character and who you can trust costs much more than the price of a watch. Walk away enlightened and with a lesson learned and you didn’t lose much in the grand scheme of things.

How in God's name do relatives/friends steal watches?
Get rid of that "friend"

Sorry to hear that, OP. Never want to read things like things...
I will say that insurance is 100% the way to go; it gives piece of mind like no other. Whether you're traveling, have a house cleaner, etc. - it's worth the premium, in my book. Hope this does end up getting resolved.

As one who had a $120 flashlight 'disappear' a few months ago, I feel for you. Deciding who may have borrowed or swiped it was a waste of thought and emotion. Yes, it was 'special' as a gift from my dad over a decade ago. It may turn up here but I'm not holding my breath. My truck was in two shops four times over twelve days as an errant sensor issue was resolved ...
As far as your watch goes, my first thought was that a younger person took it, later confirmed by your thoughts. An email with photo and description, BCC'd to your friends, hinting that it was misplaced, may assist in the "finding" of your watch. Best of luck to recovery or at least, peace of mind. |

In this case, I get the insurance concept, but even worse is that someone invited into your home would do it.
The loss is the loss but that someone has the nerve/bad manners/lack of respect is pretty hurtful, and how does one go about mentioning it to the person or parents. Really disappointing. There is something about being violated that sticks with you. Reading this and the safe and watch box threads through the years, I now store my watches in plain sight but disguised. No longer a pretty shiny watch box.

Threads like this scare me (in a positive way). I’m in the process of insuring all my pieces. Also, although I’m in an extremely safe neighborhood, I’m adding a safe and/or new security system for peace of mind.

Very sorry to hear this
Interesting lots of comments about insurance, however my current & previous policy would not cover the theft from an invited guest as you’ve ‘invited the risk into your home’ - appreciate every policy is unique though. If you’re quite certain you know who took it, I would for sure be showing up to ask about it.

File a police report and move on. Your hobbie is great, so great someone else wants to be a 'part' of it... in their own sad way. It's just a watch, and hopefully one that is easy to replace. Let the police do their job.

Hopefully you'll be able to move forward and the Hobbie gets no less fun. Replace the watch, don't worry about it. Keep your chin up and enjoy, life is short. In the future, don't test people, don't give someone a reason to disappoint you. We all have to check ourselves once in a while (I'm doing it now, am I leaving too much lying around and now begging for disappointment).
I'm having some contractors come and go recently and you've just made me realize I should be more cautious. Lucky I have only one Rolex, and I wear it all the time, but I do have some other things I will put away for a while. Forgetaboutit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm very sorry to hear this. I can only imagine how this ordeal has made you feel and that makes me mad. My fingers are crossed your watch can be recovered and or replaced but that's never the same.
