Would you take a DavidSW watch into an RSC to be verified?

First time potential buyer looking at some pieces. Would you if buying expensive pieces? Seems like he has great reviews as far as I can see? Just trying to be very careful non AD?

David knows his stuff, and I would trust him to recognize a fake before my AD would. Most ADs only see new watches, and wouldn't know a good fake if it slapped them in the face.

Now, if you have doubt and you want an accurate evaluation, send it to the RSC.

I wouldn’t be concerned at all from DavidSW, personally.

What an utter waste of money. If you don't believe one of the most well known trusted resellers on the market is 100% legit, don't buy from him.

Not needed imho. Perhaps on vintage pieces.

I personally wouldn’t but I disagree with most of the comments - it’s your money and if you want peace of mind then so be it. All I would say is that unless it’s an AD that you know and trust, then their knowledge might not be as good as you’d expect.

Agreed. I don't trust ADs at all compared to experienced used dealers with solid reputations.

If it gives you a peace of mind after spending that large amount of money then yes if an official RSC.

No way, David would never risk his sterling reputation buy selling a fake. And he would spot it before anyone.

I'm not sure you understood the question. I am new with online purchasing. Seems like a viable option to me?

To everyone else would there be any issues with servicing the watch since I wouldn't be the original owner attached to watch?

I would not do it. If its a newer hot model you may also create problems for the original owner and selling AD. Who knows or cares why the watch was sold.

Depend on what kind of verification. In my opinion most of TRF member can tell you if you have good quality photos. RSC main job now is providing servicing instead of verification

As others said no need. If by any chance something ended up being wrong he would stand behind his sale, make it right

Absolutely not... Isn't that part of the comfort in buying from him - great reviews and a TRUSTED seller.

I’ve only ever bought gray twice, once from DSW and once from greekbum.

Absolutely NO offense intended to either one of them, and I know that they are trusted sellers with impeccable reputations, but I had both my purchases authenticated by RSC and Panerai.

I’d rather find out if there’s an issue sooner than later and address it with the seller. I’m 10000% certain they know their stuff and would never knowingly sell anything that isn’t authentic, but mistakes can happen and it was more for my peace of mind.

The Dallas RSC will inspect and provide an appraisal for $150. At least that was the price in 2019. Considering a watch be it from DavidSW or any other non AD seller costs in the thousands of dollars...not a bad price for piece of mind. Especially since you would get official Rolex documentation. The fact that fakes are so good today, I would not be surprised if even DavidSW was fooled.

Which brings up an interesting question...
Why pay thousands if not 10s of thousands of dollars for a real Rolex when a clone is indistinguishable from the original?

Similar to Costco Vodka...potentially made by GreyGoose...But the fact is in taste tests indistinguishable from GreyGoose. So why pay the premium for GreyGoose?

Not saying we should all buy clones...just postulating the question. Which brings me back to the OPs question...yes, if you want 100% assurance that the watch is the genuine article...have the RSC verify...not the AD...but the RSC.

Once you bought the watch checking it after the sale is like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. Rule one buy the seller if you feel you cannot trust the seller unless you have to get it checked answer dont buy.

No, the warranty follows the watch. AD’s and Rolex sales have the issues with the gray market, RSC probably doesn’t care as long as it’s not stolen (which they will check and keep if it is) or a fake.

The two things I’ve heard of (in here) the RSC may question are:
1. Watch sold in a different country and warranty card has a different name than yours. I think this is a red flag for stolen.
2. Watch with a warranty card that has no name and/or the warranty card was not activated at an AD when sold.

DavidSW is terrific, and won’t sell you a fake. But you will want to verify the warranty card was properly registered when initially sold, and may want to avoid a watch not initially distributed and sold in the US.

Good luck, post pictures of the watch(es) you buy.

If you feel you need to get a watch checked out by RSC after purchase, then I wouldn't buy from that person no matter who it is.

In saying that, DavidSW seems to be the best well known dealer around and must have sold thousands of watches by now. I would say his team would go the absolute extra mile to be 110% sure the watch is fully authentic as even just 1 bad watch sold can totally ruin the reputaation it tooks years and hard work to build.

Really really appreciate the great responses. The warranty card has 5 years on it. And I believe the new warranty cards have no name on them attached? My main concern is being able to service the watch without issue. Thank you for the comment on the appraisal. I was wondering if you just ask RSC locally to check it out what they would say. But I can now tell them Dallas RSC does the appraisal and I guess see what they say.

No need.
But, if it’ll help. I’ve bought countless pieces from David and two have gone to service centers.
1 to rsc ny for a new sapphire which I scratched
And I just sent back an AP Clearwater for a power reserve problem.
Neither were his fault, but the service center’s obviously look at the watch and there were/are zero issues.

Buy with confidence
