Just Back From Wegman's

Returning my cart to the stand in the lot, I asked an elderly customer if I could return her cart too. She looked up from her loaded trunk, smiled as I reached for her cart, peeked at my wrist and exclaimed, "My, how nice, and what a lovely watch!"

And just like that, both of our days were made. Happy Wednesday!

Nice!
And I love the Wegman’s reference.
Most of our members won’t know what Wegman’s is. They are a regional chain (99 stores) of grocery stores headquartered in Rochester NY. They are often chosen as the best grocery store in America. Family owned, very philanthropic and a great place to work. No, I don’t work there. But I do shop there.

I like to do my grocery there when in DC. Still have a few tubs of Wegmans finishing truffle butter here.

Wine and beer section is heaven.
The food section is just fantastic too.

Cheers

Nick Tahou’s???
That’s hilarious!

For our other members: Nick Tahou’s is a Rochester institution. It’s a Greek restaurant and home of the Garbage Plate. A Garbage Plate is 2 burgers (or 2 hotdogs) with 2 sides of either: home fries, baked beens, mac salad or french fries and “dressed to your liking with spicy mustard, chopped onions, and our signature Nick Tahou's hot sauce. Each plate comes with two thick slices of fresh Italian bread and butter." (per Wikipedia).
May sound awful, tastes great!

I like wegmans but more often than not go to trader joes or whole foods because wegmans takes too long to get in and out of.

I was shopping in the Wegmans in Gainesville, VA when that earthquake happened a few years ago. It damaged buildings in DC. The whole store shook for a few seconds. Best grocery stores in the USA bar none.

That’s a very fair criticism. Their stores are enormous and not my favorite for a quick stop for 1 or 2 things.

Yeah we are very proud of wegmans here too even tho it’s from down the 90 but sometimes I just don’t have 30 mins to grocery shop!

Big Wegmans fan here as well and I was crushed when we moved from MD to CT and I had to start shopping at the craphole grocery stores they have here. Only decent alternative is Stew Leonards. Not sure why Wegmans is not opening stores in CT when they have stores in surrounding states but they are finally getting close with a new store planned for Harrison, NY (White Plains area). They would make a killing in the Greenwich/Stamford area! Once the Harrison store opens I will be making the weekly trek there instead of torturing myself at Stop & Shop, Acme or ShopRite.

Frequented the “megawegs” in Rochester. Most amazing place ever.
Think there was an ad near there.
I miss the garbage plate...

Wegman’s is opening their first NYC store this October in Brooklyn, in the Admiral’s Row development. Is that near you?

Wonder how that truffle butter compares to the stuff I picked up in Acqualagna?

Johnson City, NY is approx. 70 miles south of Syracuse off Route 17. In upstate. Brooklyn is a good 180 miles due southeast.

PP’s avatar info says he’s living in NYC. He apparently left Johnson City some time ago. That’s why I mentioned the new Brooklyn store.

Acqualagna Tartufi could be the Rolex of Truffle butter.
Which makes Wegmans perhaps the Seiko. Affordable, accessible yet respectable

Went to the Italian National truffle festival in Acqualagna back in 2003. Otherworldly. I highly recommend it.
