A little mountainbiking.

On a six day mountainbiking trip to the Durango area. Today was Phil's World near Cortez, CO.

Nice - always heard great things about Phil's World, but haven't made it down there yet.

ArtNouveau, what a watch for rough use. :)

I don't get much change to ride on the trail any more. My MTB has become a bike for beach ride, so that my road bike won't get "sandy".

That's a travesty! Totally disrespectful. Get a beach cruiser, would ya?

I think this was my fifth time there. It’s very unique, high desert that makes excellent use of the terrain and elevation. I’d swear there’s more downhill than uphill.

Here's me and my bike at Gudy's Rest atop the CO Trail at Junction Creek. 2018 Scott Spark RC900 SL, 21.4 lbs large frame.
The first two days' rides were Horse Gulch and the CO Trail. Lots of climbing out here!

Wearing an $18,000 watch while mountain biking? Guess you don't crash as often as I do

I rarely crash (knock on wood), and I still wouldn't wear mine. It's the wrong "tool" for the job anyway.

This picture is posted every time a mountainbike thread comes up. I’ve had my share of injuries since I started mountainbiking 23 years ago (recovering from a separated shoulder even now) but I don’t worry about what may happen every time I throw on my helmet. As far as “tool for the job” I’m not afraid of wearing my Rolex and especially on a trip the safest place for it to be is on my wrist. I have a Garmin Vivosport on my right wrist recording the ride and fitness info.
To each their own, I am grateful for the fitness, the friends, and the adventures mountainbiking has taken me on.

Hey Mate:

I am down in Durango mountain biking here as well now.

I used to live down here and came down to visit friends.

We are riding Dry Fork loop if you care to do it again this afternoon.

Don't forget to ride Hermosa Creek!

Take Care,

Jason

This is our last day. We rode Lower Hermosa out and back yesterday. It was better than I thought but the fire damage is still humbling.
We are actually thinking of going up Dry Fork to CO Trail, then back down through Hofheinz to the Lightner Creek trailhead. If we have enough energy left, a loop through Twin Buttes. If you see a couple of adults and a gaggle of teenagers that’s us. I’ll be in the same blue kit pictured above.

Biking & Watches

I myself would have ZERO Interest or would I ever consider wearing on my watches when out on my bike unless I was putting around on one of my fat bikes with the grand kids... Cycling is my passion with over 7500 miles logged every year and this year I already have 4300 and counting. I ride 7 days a week, 365 days a year weather and travel permitting..

These pictures of me cycling in the Arabian Desert last November in Dubai, UAE. Yes I am 66 years old and keep at it daily.. I use a garmin Edge 1030 so there is zero need to be sporting a fancy watch but yes you surely can if you like..

Dang, just finished Twin Buttes for the morning ride!

If you ever find yourself in Winter Park give me a call and I will be happy to guide you on some awesome rides!

That trail looks familiar. Is it in the Tilden Park area?
Cool watch BTW!

We skipped Twin Buttes, had to pick up part of our group who ran out of energy riding to Silverton. A bunch of our friends are heading to Winter Park for Nationals next week.

What are you using to monitor calories and heart rate..? Are you using a power meter on your crank or crank arms.. 800 calories sure seems a lot for 9 miles ...WOW

Garmin. Mountainbiking mileage does not compare with road miles, the effort level is more bursts and lulls versus the more steady pace of road. Note the elevation which all occured in the first 4 miles of the ride and on a windy rocky trail up the mountain. Our base altitude is also 6500’ here.
