These pics are not from today, watches are long gone.

I might start taking pics of every filthy watch and make a nice thread on them. Should have at least 100 pics ready by the end of the year.

Yes, very nasty indeed. Watchmaking isn't as fancy as people think it is.

The part about it shining like new is very true. I always enjoy looking it over once it’s nice and clean.

I suffer from OCD when it comes to cleaning my watches and perhaps clean them way too often. This one, I don't mind the dirt that is in places one can't see (can't blame the owner for not cleaning what he doesn't see), but the bracelet... dude, come on.

But perhaps a mechanic that wears this watch during his work, but still... you wash your hands, you see the gunk on bracelet, you take a dish soap and wash it.

Filthy.

Hi everyone new member here and first post.i clean my watches every fortnight with a soft toothbrush and Johnson’s baby shampoo. I then air dry it with my wife’s hairdryer on a high blast low heat setting that gets water out of all the nooks and cranny

I had trouble believing this comment. But it’s true. Here’s the 7 step process. Personally, I’d pay rather than taking the risk of damaging my Sub. The OP is knowledgeable.

Went and cleaned it just to see if I was an offender
Not bad, but not the cleanest either

After

Took like 5-10minutes

I just did it, super easy

Just be careful of the spring in there. It's tiny, comes out easily, and is a bit of a pain to put back in

A rookie question Bas, but when you accumulate that amount of junk underneath the bezel, would there be a risk of it falling off? or is it secure regardless?

All I can say is my watches never get that dirty. But, if you wear a watch while doing dusty dirty work in a mine or excavating I can see how that can happen.

Give the watches a short soak in distilled water and blue dawn on occasion IMO.

Dirt is good for the movement, it keeps the water away.

It was harder to take this one off than a clean one. That dirt turns into a cement like solid over the years...
