PO 39.5 or a Submariner

Hello, I need some advise. I have narrowed down the choices for my next watch between an Omega PO 39.5 Seamaster or a Rolex Sub. I am leaning toward the PO for this reason. I have a very small wrist about 6.5 inches. I love the way that the PO looks and sits on my wrist, while, at least to me, the Sub dominates my wrist. I realize the history behind he Sub, I just think the PO offers more for substantially less money, while being a quality watch. I have tried the larger PO Seamaster and it is much to large. I am not looking to purchase and sell in a year for a profit as many do with the Rolex. I would appreciate all opinions.

Get the PO it sounds like it’s the better fit for you!
It’s a great size and in my opinion the more interesting watch technology wise. Shop around and you can get the po new for a good discount, only question is what colour do you want?

I would look at the SeaMaster 300 and the Tudor Black Bay 58. Both wear smaller and offer a lot of value for the money. Nothing wrong with a Submariner but for the current cost you could get two or three good watches for the cost.

Completely agree

If the PO fits then that is the logical choice. The new Co-Axial movements are really next level

An excellent choose and one you will not see on everyone’s wrists. I too have a small wrist, any my 16610 looks more proportioned than the new 6 digit with the wider lugs. But I really like the PO especially due to the size options.

I've tried that 39.5 mm PO and it's perfect on my wrist, too. The ONLY drawback is that it didn't have the jumping hour hand like the 43.5 and 45.5 mm versions (I think it has the quickset date, instead). I love the jumping hour hand function (like on the GMT Master II), makes it so much easier to change time zones when travelling.

If that's not a concern for you, go with the PO. I personally love the blue dial version.

Have both PO and Sub, PO is a better watch for the money. Wore my PO daily for 10+ years while the Sub rarely sees the sun.

I'd take the sub because it wears thinner....the new POs are still a bit too thick for me. Also small wristed like you OP.

I have a similar size wrist and was also contemplating the PO39.5. However, the thickness put me off it - the proportions just aren't right in my opinion. Ended up going for BB58 and haven't looked back! Strongly recommend you try the BB58 before you make a final decision.

I have both Sub and PO. Honestly....love the PO more. It’s amazingly accurate (.5 sec/day) and is so comfortable in the titanium version.

I would get the watch you want the most--regardless of the anticipated cost savings of one over the other. That said, the Planet Ocean is a great watch. I actually prefer the 8800 movements over the 8900. The quick-set date on the 8800 is much easier to adjust.

Old thread! I just got a 39.5 deep black to complement my sub date. Tried some larger 43 and 44mm watches over the years, but my 40mm sub is just a great size to daily. Wanted a black ceramic watch to wear on odd days. 6’2” and a 7.25” wrist. I just consider Rolex 40mm sport watches to be the standard for a man.

41 Sub actually measures at about 40.5, so the size difference should not be an issue. The thin thickness of the Sub is what really might make you prefer the Rolex. Very comfortable on the wrist. Both great watches, but my vote is for the Sub.

I love the PO, and I have the original, which is 42mm but wears very much like a 40mm watch, but even that is on the edge of being too thick for me. The new POs are even thicker, so even at 39.5mm, it's a no go for me.

I wish Omega could take a page from JLC's book and make thinner watches. Otherwise, they are fantastic, robust, with very accurate movements.

PO makes a ton of sense for you at 39.5mm. Will save you some money too and you won't have to wait for it. If you've tried it on and like it I see no reason not to go that route. Less common than the Sub too which I also like.
