Very American-centric. No one in Europe knows most of the guys in your list except for Tiger and Beckham. Im pretty sure Tennis per se and Federer has far more reach (worldwide) than any basketball player ever will. So I think Federer is a perfect choice...of course I`m biased though :)

I think you are wrong. Rolex made a good choice with Federer. He is an amazing athlete with amazing conduct, very elegant and courteous, had a very long carrier, he is everything that Rolex represents and want to be associated with.

He is very close to the brand values and its target audience/tennis/wealth.

Sponsors make no difference to me. Neither does advertising. I make my buying decisions independently.

Not hurting sales any mind. So someone’s done their homework.

Rolex obviously think he’s worth it-he gets an estimated $5 million a year to represent the brand!

Will have to look that one up. Thanks.

I always think of the Clapton & Winwood concert circa early naughties where he wears a beefy MG. or was it a GMT? MG IIRC.

No one knows how much it is. It's much more than that. His clothing contract alone is $30m a year. And despite that he wears nike on his own accord (Nike doesn't sponsor him anymore).

I think he is a great sportsman. The best ever tennis player there has been since the open era. The records that he breaks is astonishing.

Looking forward to him playing Nadal on Friday. It's going to be a cracker of a game.

Although, if there was a watch nicknamed the Cosby GMT, Bundy Daytona or Bolivar Day date ..... that would influence me.

I wont buy a watch with some dude's name or branding (other than the manufacturer) on it. Rappers, athletes, hollyweird actors are not my idols and I definitively dont lookup to them so this type of advertising does nothing for me.

Don’t tell this to UNI QLO....they are paying him $300 million over 10 years to help them sell clothes and build their brand.

Time will tell if they get a good ROI.

I don't know if Federer himself makes a difference but Advertising definitely works. I still remember seeing an AP Royal Oak for the first time in Golf Magazine in the early 90's. I still hadn't purchased my Sub and I had never heard of AP before but I knew I would own one some day.

Not trying to be an ass or anything, but as someone who now lives in the US but is originally from a very different part of the world, half of that list are unknown people in some parts of the world while Federer is a household name in those same places. Depends on where you come from I guess.

I doubt Rolex, Mercedes, NetJets, Moet and amongst others just sponsor him for no reason.

Federer is a symbol, more so than as a sales point. Rolex markets people that have attained greatness doing something others have not; very much like their watch. Does everyone know the woman’s name that swam across the English Channel?, not likely, but we all know of her great accomplishment. Rolex, itself, mirrors these people, accomplishing things other watch companies have not....

I honestly don't think persona plays into it. Simply, how many eyes are going to be on our product? Choose XYZ celebrity with the most exposure and outfit him or her.

I'd think Rolex sponsoring pretty much every tennis major event from the match clock to the courtside logos has much more of brand reinforcement then having a single player throwing it on if they hit the podium. RM on the other hand having their athletes wearing their pieces while playing has a much larger impact and something that only they can do with their pieces being so light.

A tremendous amount of talent. Someone who “dares”. You may not “like” her, but she is a good choice for their AD campaign.

US women team won the football (soccer) world cup last Sunday for the second year in a row. Not one player is sponsored by Rolex. Is soccer not classy enough?.. But good enough for Tudor?
