I'm torn on the gut feeling thing especially when it comes to buying something. I rely on it heavily for other things though.

However on buying things I have a voice in my head from my parents who grew up in the depression and who were very frugal. Growing up, they made me feel guilty when buying things for myself and that stuck with me. So on every expensive purchase no matter what it is the guilt creeps in and I just blank it out.

If this is about waiting too long on an AD’s list for a Daytona 500 you will get flamed...

On the other hand...

Whether it’s a bad vibe, gut feeling or sixth sense - intuition is a powerful tool and shouldn’t be ignored.

It generally refers to a brain process that gives you an ability to avoid a bad situation almost intuitively - and make decisions without the use of lengthy analytical reasoning.

So go with it if it means avoiding a painful experience. But, on the other hand, it isn’t as useful when choosing among pleasurable options - that’s called an euphoric illusion.

As far as flee vs. stay the course - consider whether you’ll have time to bail out if you dally too long. It’s like a test pilot who has to choose whether to punch out of a deteriorating flight profile. At some point you’re beyond the point of no return.

What are your implied odds of things turning out alright? You need to know that now.

Good luck in your choice and please let us know.

Depends on if it’s a one way or a two way door. Can i make a decision to keep going and go back? Or if i make the wrong decision am i locked in. Two way doors, easy decision. One way doors, i probably abort.

It’s not a point of no return situation. I’m observing a potential job opportunity. Previous job is not a factor. It all makes sense on paper. I’ve been “observing” to see how things are done and in a diff market. A few items have been bad vide things. I’m also coming into a total diff environment that I left.

I’m a physician. I do a lot of high risk surgeries and super sick kids.
That gut feeling is the voice of 2 decades of experience and almost 5 decades of living.
I always listen to the gut and more often than not, it’s absolutely right.

When in doubt, do nothing. In the ideal world, a job change should be exciting, not fearful.

Research has proven most people, on average, are completely irrational/ineffective at making decisions. Might as well flip a coin

if you want to get really deep in the weeds there is plenty of studies that show people dont actually make any conscious decisions. You have no free will, but the illusion of it.

Basically brain scans have shown when presented with a choice your subconscious mind activates which you dont control, well before your conscious mind. Your subconscious makes the choice then your conscious mind selects it. You think YOU chose on your own to turn left or right.... but you didn't. Your brain independently of you made the decision before you thought you chose it yourself, consciously.

you live on autopilot... sort of. rough example, but you get the idea.

Day 1 I had a bad gut feeling. I saw many red flags. I ignored them and pushed on. The red flags were legitimate. I should have trusted my gut.

90% of the time I go with my gut, 10% of the time I mess up big time. Don't override the gut feeling.

Trusting your gut is backed by valid evidence. To anybody interested in learning more about this, I highly recommend Gavin de Becker‘s book The Gift of Fear.

Through experience I have learned to listen to that little voice.

I may stay in the game for a bit (While planning my exit. If the voice is small.) to see how it is unfolding.

When that voice say. Eject!, eject!, eject!. I do and hit the ground running.

Much the same as I did. On day 1 my gut was telling me eject now! I figured it may be best to give it a little time. It just got worse daily.
