Ah, I'm yet to experience anything like this from a Bluetooth beacon at a retail store or how ever else. I'm annoyed by the Google ads already so this wouldn't be fun.

Sounds like a scene from Minority Report.

I would bet its your cell phone speaker and it heard you say Cartier, watch, tank, etc. Happens to me all the time with random ADs that have nothing to do with my internet search habits but will come up in random conversation then BOOM an ad.
One of the most random ones was when I was charging my phone in my office and the guy in the office next to me was on the phone with his doc discussion his sleep apnea. Few hours later at the gym Pandora wouldn't stop hitting me with CPAP ads. |

With the various major hacks of recent years--Chase, Target, Equifax, Ebay, Yahoo, et al. etc. etc. ad nauseam--I doubt there is much about me that isn't floating around out there somewhere.
Plus more specifically here, if it really is as simple as Google Maps told Cartier I stopped by its store window--well, my email is Gmail. |

they geo tag your location using your phone then push out to known email addresses that are tagged to the phone number. if your location is on this happens.
why is anyone shocked by this? every end user agreement you sign gives them the ability to do much more.

^^^^^ what he said. Pay attention to permissions you allow apps to have.

There are numerous culprits. It comes down to deciding if you want to shut down all location services and microphone seeking apps.
