Are Datejusts looked down upon?

At times, on this forum, it appears to me that unless you have a hard to get sought after unit other watches are looked down upon.

I am a huge DJ fan and especially the new 41. I have bought 3 Rolex watches this year and all have been DJ's. I prefer them over the DD, the GMT's and the Daytona's.

For some reason I feel as if the DJ just isn't a respected Rolex. Am I wrong here?

Yes you are totally wrong the DJ range has been the biggest seller world wide for decades.

Nothing wrong with a nice DJ41 and I am pretty sure DJ's are one of Rolexes top sellers.

Trying getting the gang excited for your 36mm tt w/diamond markers. The herd likes what the herd likes. But the rest of the world loves DJs!

I don’t get that impression, if anything the DJ seems highly thought of and well regarded all round. It might not whip up the same frenzy on account of being generally available but that’s slowly changing too

The Milgauss is divisive - some like it and some don’t; about 50/50 I’d guess.

The AirKing has fewer fans than the Milgauss.

Sports or "professional series" watches are always the most discussed watches on the forum. I don't know why but that's the way it is. Might have to do with member demographics.

I have a strong connection with my black 36mm Datejust...Simply a classic, better than any sports model I have ever tried on

My favorite watch is my 36 mm blue 16030. If I could only have 1, that would be it.

I personally have zero interest in what the “masses” want/like. There’s nothing worse than groupthink.

sports watches are more "interesting" from a forum perspective, but there's a ton of love for the Datejust. DJ was my first

Not at all, I don't know anyone that looks down on a Datejust. I personally love my 1601.

When I joined this forum, I wanted to buy a DJ. I just had a question about where to buy. However after reading threads, I decided to get a mix of date just and sub. Ended up with TT sub. The forum doesn't like TT watches either.
Now I have a Daytona, a BLNR and a smurf. I think I am happy as well.

Are Datejusts looked down upon?

Just a lot of demand/hype for the tough to get pieces. So when they're posted as incomings there are a lot of congrats/where do you get/how long did you wait/ etc etc etc
Love my 41 btw

You need to stay away from the internet hype for a while. The date just is probably one of the most iconic/classic watches of all time.

I think you’re right as far as the Datejust seeming less popular on the forum.

What Padi is saying is that the Datejust is a big seller, regardless of what you see on this forum, which I have also heard.

Are datejusts looked down upon you ask , well it depends on the angle of my wrist when looking at it . As you can clearly see below , I'm looking down on my datejust , whereas if my arm was raised above my head I would be looking up at my datejust

That’s a 41?

You must have a big wrist. My 36 fits me the same way your 41 fits you! Haha

Looks very good on you by the way

The DJ is on more wrists around the world than any other model Rolex makes.

Maybe on TRF it's given short shrift because it's considered a more elegant/dainty watch especially the fluted bezel model, but despite its beauty it's also tough as hell. Just search for the multiple Jockes restoration of his DJ threads.

That should be a Rolex thread: "Is it safe to wear my Rolex at Jockes workplace?" :)

Also for years the de facto DJ sizing was 36mm. Perfectly normal sized but bigger watches were marketed as "mens" watches, hence the DJ41 sizing (really 39.6mm)

Regardless a great watch.

It does seem that way sometimes, but DJs have always and will always be extremely popular.

A DJ (especially on jubilee with a fluted bezel) is an icon just like most other Rolex models.

Some people just get swayed by the whole "professional" terminology.

No, the Datejust is a great watch, both old and new models.
