6006g

Whilst at my AD at the weekend debating a PM Rolex (poll was put in the Rolex forum on that!), for a similar price I was also alerted to the 6006G.

It was not a watch I was very familiar with and, being part of the Calatrava family, I immediately dismissed it. Firstly because I have a Calatrava already (a 5120G) and secondly, that Calatrava was a purchase before I knew anything about Patek and I paid full AD price, only to realise the watch lost 5k in value the moment I walked out of the door and I could have picked it up used/unworn for a lot less.

Thus I disregarded the 6006G at the weekend and focused on the Rolex options.

Today I keep thinking about it and looking at the Patek website. Yes, it is a Calatrava but it is nothing like my 5120G and has the look of a far more complicated watch. Has anyone got one / any thoughts on it?

I can see it is not so readily available used (only two in the UK, where I am, on Chrono 24) so would one expect to negotiate a discount at an AD on this watch?

I like this watch but you will likely lose about 50% if you needed to resell.

I think its a very sporty watch and can be dressed down simply with the change of a strap.

You can get the prior model used 6000g. Instead of a red arrow its a crescent
They go for high teens to low 20’s USD. So adjust thay in euro

Not exactly. The new 6006 is 39mm and the 6000 was 36mm so the price difference has something to do with that, smaller size being less desirable.

Patek 6006G is a sporty watch compared to the 5120G. 6006G is readily available so a discount is possible.

All the Calatrava models on the current catalogue apart from the 5088P would lose value

I would predict a blue version to be announced at Basel 2019. If you’re looking for blue, I would wait.

The 6006g can look quite sporty on a black strap with red stitching.

I don’t think anyone would pick it as their first or only Calatrava, but you seem to have your pure “dress” watch needs already covered, so I would say go for it as long as you can get a good price!

I tried it on and like the look but the lugs are very flat so they might hang over a smaller wrist. It’s sporty looking. Definitely try for a discount.

6000 was 37mm. All references in this "family" (5000/6000/6006) have elongated lugs so wear slightly bigger than their listed size.

The 6006 is the most interesting Calatrava to me and feels like it could be a pretty versatile watch! I've seen them available at a couple AD's recently as well so a discount must be available.

I have a 6000R and love it. As others have said, it can be worn casually or on dressier occasions. The 6006 is obviously slightly bigger and has an updated dial.

Looking at Chrono24, there doesn’t seem to be much difference in price between buying used or from an AD. I have seen quite a few in AD windows, if you get lucky you might get a discount which would make the decision easier!

Patek already made a blue dial version. Here's an example currently for sale at European Watches in Boston.

That’s the older version, which is smaller at 37mm, has the crescent date indicator and doesn’t have the skeleton hands.

I am pretty familiar with this watch as I like the Calatrava line but find it a bit too traditional at times and this one sticks out. It is intriguing and polarizing as many folks also don't like it. Its uniqueness and polarizing effect is part of the reason I like it or it's charm. Like many watches, it is different in the flesh and I liked it even more in person, one thing I noticed is the strap was shinier than I thought. The lugs very lovely and elegant, the piano dial was unique, and the red arrow which I prefer to the crescent had a nice pop/contrast. Although some folks mentioned resale which I agree with (all Calatravas in general) I think this one may have collectibility potential in the future.

This thread needs pics, one of the rare forum topics around here AND a Calatrava, I'm excited!

I forgot to mention my absolute favorite part about this watch, the superb and sublime 240 PS C ultra thin movement with off center quarter rotor.

Can’t decide if I like the hands or not...they look contrived to me.

Love my quirky 6000r and that 240 movement is really something :)

6006g

My AD has one, been sitting inside the display shelf for months. Guess it’s not a popular watch.

I like the quirkiness of the dial design. Almost went for it but decided not to. No regrets.

You did right by asking for opinions. I would rather put my bet on a Nautilus piece.

I think this is a cool piece. Very different from a classic Calatrava.

I like the looks of the watch and my AD has one that has been in the case for a long time. I will admire from afar.
