Vintage Beyeler dial

I came across a Beyeler dial at my parents home.

* ~26mm diameter
* has gilt look to it
* Submariner written on it
* was inside a submariner 5512 watch box

Not sure what watch this dial is from or if it is an authentic period dial - but it is way too small for a 1960s Submariner.

Thoughts?

While I can't vouch for its authenticity, I'm pretty sure 26mm is the correct size for 5512/5513 etc.

Curious as to why your parents would have such a vintage dial-only hanging around. Going with the Occam's razor theory here. Hope to be proven wrong.

Looks like an early 60's 5512 gilt exclamation point dial. Not something easily found and worth a pretty penny as well. Maybe your father had it swapped out at an early service? Does he still own the watch?

Thanks all. The dial I found was from the original Submariner Box. I have a 1962 5512 and was told by a supposedly decent Rolex AD that the dial above didn't fit (they eyeballed the measurements). I am glad to hear that this 26mm dial should fit.

So I have a 1962 5512 Submariner. But have gone to an AD and a another independent Rolex service shop and both have said the dial is too small for my watch. Could this be from a 1950s Sub?

Vintage Beyeler dial

Sorry for the duplicative posts - the mobile app doesn't post my replies in a timely fashion and I several of my posts aren't even showing up

At least neither of the people you took it to offered to buy the old dial from you. Are you sure that there is nothing tucked in inside the box? Paperwork or tags.

No paperwork or tags on the dial. Both Rolex places I went to were at the service center - no one has ever asked me to buy watches or parts I have brought in to fix.

I called Rolex North America Service Center and they didn't have any records on the discontinued 26mm dials.

According to Stefano Mazzariol, a renowned vintage Rolex collector and researcher, here are some of the actual measurements of various dials he has recorded:

6536 – 26,98mm circa cal. 1030 deep 100/330
6536/1 – 27,68mm circa cal 1030 deep 100/330
5508 – 27,69mm circa cal 1530 deep 100/330
6538 – 27,00mm circa cal 1030 deep 200/660
5510 – 26,96mm circa cal.1030 deep 200/660

I'm thinking this dial is from a 1950s Sub, and there is a generous level of variance between dial sizes.

Thoughts?

Funny, I wanted to send Spicyj a private message to try see if he wanted to sell that dial or swap for correct but, it appears I am too late as he has "exceeded his allotment of messages" and cannot receive any more until he clears some out.

Looks like I am not the only one looking to buy it :)
