I like the SkyD in SS, and the panda Daytona in PM, so was a good Basel for me.

I think you need to try both on and decide which looks best on you. I wish the Daytona was slightly larger diameter personally buy maybe the smaller diameter suit you better maybe the larger sky dweller suit you better. Good luck.

Size difference between the two is significant.
Both have brilliant modern movements

If trying them on is an option then the personal decision should be simple.

For me, I find the size of Daytona ideal.
I tried on a PM skyD and found it to be large and clumsy... but the new SS version will be lighter and may have a more balanced wrist presence? Looking forward to trying one on.

I can certainly agree with you...I was very blessed to have received the Daytona Ceramic in black from my wife and son for Christmas... With that said, if I was in the market to buy another watch anytime soon, it would be a SS Skydweller in blue... I think it looks really sharp and brings another color to my collection.

You have good taste buddy!

How old is the movement in the Daytona? The SkyD movement is their most advanced, fwiw.

The Daytona Calibre 4130 was first introduced in 2000 however Rolex has apparently continued to make improvements to it without mention.

Making a big assumption here but if your username refers to what I think it does then valuing an advanced movement would be ironic.

Smallish wrist? Daytona. Chronograph useful for you? Daytona.

Bigger wrist? Toss up. Annual calendar function more useful? SkyD. Is bling an issue, either way? At 42mm with fluted bezel, I think SS SkyD will have more bling.

Alternative for a smaller wristed man with no need for a Chrono function? Save your $$ for a Patel annual calendar or look at a vintage Day-Date.

Although the HD reference is interesting it has nothing to do with horology. I'm compelled to say I'm reminded of Emmerson: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines."

TBH I'm pretty much puffed out with the Daytona hype/ endless waiting/ grey market resale nonsense.

I tried on the mocked up SS Sky Dweller recently and it was love at first touch.

Blue : )

Shiny side up.

On topic - I tried the blue dial SKD last week. It's big but not overwhelmingly big. Love that color dial.

$14K is a bargain for that complication but I'm still a Daytona fan at heart.

So was this the demo mock-up that's been circulating or was it a fully functional one. I'm also curious as to how it compares with other 42mm watches as far as feel on the wrist. I have a Super Ocean, a Planet Ocean, and two Tudor GranTours (Chrono and Date) all or which work for me on my 6.5 in wrist. Any comparison you can make as far as feel?
