Was scammed by a Romanian seller on Chrono24

I recently faced a very painful lesson. I was purchasing a very well priced Omega Speedmaster Professional via chrono24 when I stumbled upon one for about $3600SGD, low price but definitely not too low.

I conversed with the seller over Email for a couple of days and he seemed very legitimate. Sent me his ID, next to the item, even posing as an old man! He was able to produce a scanned copy as well as putting one next to the item.

At the same time, the bank account I wired to was also under the same name. Now i've done a few online transactions on this forum as well as Chrono24. Lucky for me, they have been great experiences.

What I do want to share is that, these Romanian scammers are really good at what they do, dangerously good.

Look at the documents he sent me below. He even sent me a tracked item to throw me off course and I waited 2 weeks for the item. Of course, it never came. The item was a failed delivery because of a rubbish address and is being sent back to Romania.

I tracked his email to Bucharest, Romania. I've reported to my local authorities, in terms of my money, it is probably unrecoverable. But I would very much like to put this guy behind bars.

This guy's ID is probably fake though.

Sorry to hear that you got scammed. Question: Why didn't you simply use the option of keeping your money in escrow where it won't be released to the seller until you received the item?

Yea that was one thing I regretted not doing. He convinced me that it was similar to bank transfer and it doesnt help that there are a lot of bad reviews on the escrow account. That made me more inclined to do a bank transfer

only use Chrono 24 for checking prices. Then use reliable, trusted seller for deal. Sorry for your lose.

When I reviewed the pictures it did seem a little weird. But i wasn't able to spot it at that moment. I guess I need a better eye at this kind of things..

Sorry to hear, I don't even like wiring money to dealers in my own country unless I have dealt with them a few times before, you are brave to wire to Romania. What has your bank said? Anything they can do?

Hi tommy, I've gone both to the police and the bank and they said they will try their best but they were frank with me that the amount is almost impossible to recover..
