Wow! 80% of the posts were polar dials. I have an incoming 216570 in a black. Wonder of o should change. I liked the contrast of the black dial and the orange hand.
Great pics everyone |

Hi!
I just bought mine, black dial after a looooong stare at both while at my AD. Very happy with my decision! Even Pro explorers agree the one with the black dial, as a tool watch, is the most useful in harsh weather ... Cheers! |

They are both lovely. Just pick whichever suits you and you won't be disappointed (you can always save up for the other).....

I just joined the polar club. Beautiful watch and extremely comfortable. I love the lume and legibility.

I tried both before purchase and for the black dial version, under certain lighting the white gold portion of the hands"blends" into the dial. Black dial photo borrowed from the net a watch is meant to be worn |

I have to agree on that and it can some times deter legibility , but on the other hand the black one for me is a greater all round tool watch since you can easily wear it with your jeans and your suits

I found that the polar explorer is a great addition to any watch collection. The majority of my other watches are black and the polar provides a breath of fresh air.

I wear my polar mainly for travel and exploring, but it doesn't get much daily wear at home. It's my most expensive watch and also the one that gets the most abuse.
This was in Nepal in the lower Himalayas, at the cabins we stayed in at the top of our hike. I believe that is Annapurna II in the background. |

Chalk up another for the thread.
Had this about 5 weeks or so now and can't take it off. It's become my favourite watch out of the Rolex I own. The dial is pleasingly large being Super Maxi Size which makes it unique in the Rolex line up. Makes the dial of my GMT now look too small by way of comparison yet the watch doesn't feel overly large due to is slim proportions, as others have also mentioned. It's the most understated Rolex I own, which is no bad thing and is probably the best Rolex model I've come across that is equally at home in casual jeans and tee shirt as well as a suit, making it incredibly versatile. The lume is like a torch, glows brightly through the night no problems at all. The legibility of the dial is second to none, easily eclipsing all the other Rolex divers in that regard. It really is a beautiful watch, true to its tool watch heritage in every way and a modern design icon. Anyone who comes across this thread who's on the fence about the Explorer 42mm, don't be, you'll be very surprised how taken one becomes with this timepiece. It deserves equal qudos with the other Rolex sport offerings such as the Sub and the GMT et al. It's every bit the Rolex to aspire to as much as the others, if not more so for its unique, stand alone design in the range. |
