I think Explorer I on Croc is like Indiana Jones with a tuxedo in the jungle.

Distressed brown is the Indy way to go

#1 or 2, thicker straps work better on the Explorer 1 in my opinion.

OEM is 16mm and can be found among WIS. I have also used an 18mm which is a replica from eBay. Haven't looked at any other sizes.

There's a shop, originally hand making leather straps for Panerai watches call Wotancraft. You can google it or contact them on FB. I will pay them a visit today to see what they got for Rolex.
Thanks Steven.

Just had a look at Wotancraft, they look great but obviously geared towards Panerai in sizing for the most part.

Does anyone know if those leather NATOs actually fit on an Explorer ok?

Any other good quality strap brand recommendations?

Cheers

#1 is a great casual look; but #3 is oozing class.

I saw their leather natos. Unlike regular Panerai straps, they are quite thin and should fit the explorer 1 perfectly. I will get you some pic of their natos tomorrow.

I'm usually not a fan of leather bands on a Rolex but that first picture is gorgeous... it really looks great on the Explorer!

Bond NATO is a must for 114270 / 214270

#1 will look better with simple stitch instead.

Hey OP, one more thing. Due to lug configuration and sharpness of metal case after removal of bracelet, it can chew on your leather strap. I put a piece of well cut clear packing tape on the case between the lugs. And , Voila. Strap protected.

Thanks for the heads up about the rubbing. I will tape it if rubbing is very serious.

I contacted the seller for the strap of the first pic I posted. Here's the info for anyone who is also interested.

Is it true that Rolex doesn't make buckles size greater than 16mm?

That first pic looks stunning.

For anyone thinking about a leather strap look at Toshi straps. Real nice bits of kit and plenty of choice.

For you guys in the USA, the price should work out nice as well, what with the state of the GBP
