Patek 5711 or 5712?

This has come up many times before on this forum, but not since 2014. I'm wondering how thoughts have changed.

I have an opportunity to but either a 5711 or 5712 new from AD. Both in steel (blue dial) and both on bracelet. Really struggling which one to choose as what I like about each is also what I don't like about each (relative to one another). For instance:

5711
I love the plain dial, but worry that the plan dial is too boring.
Love the understated look, but worry it's too understated.
Like that it is less money, but is it inferior because it is less money.

5712
Love the complications, but don't really need any of the complications.
Love the asymmetrical dial, but worry it's too busy.
Like that it is more interesting, worry that it I will like it less as time wears on.

Curious what the current sentiments are out there now that both of these references are extremely difficult to find at AD.

Any and all help/thoughts are appreciated. Especially from those that have also gone through this excruciating decision and/or have owned either or both.

Thanks in advance!

I've had my 5711 for about 3 years now. What I really like about the watch is you can really appreciate the blue dial and how it changes colors. Downside is it's a little boring at times. I'm thinking of selling it for the 5712.

If you are unsure, I would buy the 5711 and if you get bored of it, you can flip with no loss for a 5712.

I was debating between the two as well and I echo some of your thoughts. However, I just picked up an AP 15202, so my decision got a lot easier for the 5712.

However, I would really look at the rest of your collection. Most of my watches are simple time only. So the 5712 will really fit well with the added complication. Many others on the forum will also say Patek is know for complications.

On the other hand, if you will be spending a lot of time in the water, the 5711 does have a higher water resistance. But I will be hard pressed to find someone wearing a nautilus thinking the water resistance in the 5712 is not enough. For me, I may take a dip in the pool, but will never dive with a Patek.

I would get the 5712 all day every day and twice on Sunday. Disclaimer: I have the 5712.

The simple beauty of the 5711 always wins for me - can't be bettered.

I prefer the clean simple look of the 5711 vs the cluttered asymmetrical dial of the 5712

I prefer the 5711 by far for the simple elegance. The face of the 5712 does not work for me.

I prefer the 5711 but if you don't have any complications in your collection then maybe go 5712. What else do you own?

5712 for me. The dial has always sung to me, so the decision was easy. I wear it more casually, so I reserve the simplicity of a clean traditional dial for a dressier watch. I personally also like having a power reserve and have a strange, maybe irrational appreciation for the micro-rotor.

I prefer the 5712 and that was my pick. However, between the two there is no wrong choice. You can always sell 5711 and make a few dollars. Good luck and look forward to your incoming!

It's really interesting how split the responses are. Justifying my inability to make a decision, but not helping me to make a decision... :)

I couldn't agree more.

I have it in blue and white for that reason.

The 5712 and 5726 have never done it for me.

Agree as well 5711 all the way. The 5712 and 5726 have also never done anything for me. Never cared for either dial layout. The 5711 is simple and perfect!

Take a look on the back of those watches and you will recognize the winner.

5711 for me. The dial is mesmerizing. I'm on the hunt for one!

I also had this dilema however looking at the market it makes 1000% sense to get the 5711 first and change to the 5712 if need be rather then the other way around
