Vacation led me to my first Patek

I was recently on vacation in Maui as part of a work trip. I knew Barron and Leeds on the island carried Patek and since my hotel was 5 minutes away I decided to pay them a visit to look, but had no intention of buying anything.

Upon arriving the store was dead and the ladies working were very nice and quick to remove any watch from the case I so much as pointed at. I had always loved the aquanaut and the pushers on the 5164 intrigued me. When I inquired on any aquanauts in the store the woman said they only had the gmt and removed it from a display. I was instantly in love. She let me play with the pushers and try it on. After handing it back to her we chatted more and as I was leaving the store the woman said that they would be more apt to negotiate on the last day of the month, today, than the first. Knowing that I left the store and walked around the shopping center with a friend. My friend, who doesn't care about watches at all, was in love with the 5164 and as we were talking he made some good points, convincing me to try and negotiate for the watch. i came up with a number about 17% off thinking it wouldn't fly. When we returned to the store I approached the sales woman who I was working with and told her my number. She said she wasn't sure if that was possible but if I was serious she would call the boss. I told her I was and she told the manager, took my card (as a show of good faith on my part) and stepped into a separate room right next to where we were sitting. I could hear parts of the conversation and it felt like a scene from the game show deal or no deal. After 2 minutes the woman stepped out from behind he room, shook my and and said congratulations. I was floored but excited. I never thought I would be in a position to purchase the 5164 at this time but time timing and price were impeccable. To justify it I keep telling myself that by buying this young I will be able to enjoy it for longer . I particularly like the rubber strap, I never wear my 15202 for fear of scratching the bracelet.

The only drawback is I am told that the khaki green strap won't fit the 5164!!

My iPhone shots don't do the watch justice, but the mountains look pretty cool.

Congratulations on your 5164! A great story on a beautiful watch.
I think you should double check, the khaki green rubber strap does fit the 5164.

congrats - and whilst the Khaki strap doesn't exactly fit the watch it does fit and looks very good.

there is just a slight gap between the strap and the case which is not noticable

Thanks All! I'll have to have them send the khaki strap through. They told me it wasn't an 'exact fit' but I wasn't sure how it would look. Thanks for the info from those that mentioned it would fit and would look good despite the case gap.

Hah - I'm in sales and we have annual President's club trips that I have been lucky to win. This is starting to become a tradition but I am unsure how to top it next year.

Congrats, but wear your 15202, sure you're gonna get scratches, but being careful should limit them, too bad to have such cool watch and not wear it

Great story. Congrats on the purchase. The 5164 is really stunning in person and has grown on me. There is something magical about buying a luxury item on impulse, and nothing beats that feeling doing so while you're on vacation. Enjoy it and wear it!
