declined

My AD just offered me a new Sea Dweller 43mm, retail, no tax, and I declined. I hate watches over 40mm. My wrist is almost 7 3/4" but I don't like big watches which is a good thing since I save a lot of money now days.

Yeah, I would have too. Love the look of the watch but too big for me. Especially don't like the widened bracelet. Never got comfortable with my Tudor BB because if that, my Sub is way more comfortable on my wrist and I think the skinnier bracelet is a big factor there. My wrist is 7.5" at least and Sub is as big as I'll go.

I have taken a stand also to stay at 40mm or below. It is sad because there are a few I really like but don't get these large sizes

With an almost 8 inch wrist... I wouldn't be so hesitant personally. But with my 6.5'ers, I wouldn't buy the SD43 at 25% off.

I wouldn't either. Not the type to flip for profit at the expense of other enthusiasts on new models.

With that in mind, who would buy a 51mm James Cameron 'Deep Sea Challenge'? Talk about an oversized and somewhat ostentatious-looking watch. And yes kids, it's safe to wear in the shower or on a waterslide.

Did you put your name on a list and then decline or were they calling you out of the blue to buy it?

That is a collectors watch only. None in their right mind would wear it.

It is great to have so many choices from Rolex, I recently declined on the new black dail Daytona at msrp because it just didn't push my buttons.
My philosophy has always been pick my watches for who's going to be wearing them .....

I like the larger size watches. I'm wearing a 41mm watch right now and personally I think anything smaller looks like a woman's watch.

Good thing there are still plenty of options for you, even though you have to ignore the DJ41, the Explorer II, the SD50, the Sky-Dweller, the YMII, the DSSD....

Point being, Rolex thankfully gives us choices.

I also prefer smaller, and 41 appears to be my maximum diameter, with 40 being the sweet spot.

Here's the thing though, I had the chance to get the new sea dweller but the problem was that I could not see it or try it on first, as they are not available here. Anyway, I made the decision to get it without seeing it.

So, I will get the SD43 tomorrow so will see what to do after trying it on. Maybe if I feel its too big, then I could consider changing it for one of the last 40mm SDc.

PS. I have not seen an indication of the price in UK and USA. In South Africa I was quoted around $10,900 and I will pay around $10,000. Is this competitive or am I getting ripped?

I think the enormous watches are fascinating, but with my barely 7" wrist, they are not for me. My BLNR fits well as do a couple of 36" DayDate and DateJust watches. I think 40mm is my max watch size without looking like I'm trying too hard. Too bad as the new Sea Dweller look ptpretty nice.

I called to be put on a list the moment rumors were flying that a new SD might be in the works. I have a long standing relation with the owners of the dealership, which is how I got one of the first new Daytonas. Retail, no tax on newly launched watches, not bad.

Having been frequenting a DJ2 and a 42mm Explorer 2 lately, my GMT-C is beginning to look decidedly small now. I'd hazard a guess that the next generation of Rolex Sports watches will all be upsized from their current 40mm dimensions.
