I have a Seiko that felt like crap when I bought it. At the advice of Toxicavenger, I lubed the threads with some wax, and now it’s nice and smooth. My Grand Seikos, however, have always been buttery smooth.

Grand Seiko will never have the reputation (deserved or not) of Rolex. That being said, Rolex can’t (or won’t) match the quality of Grand Seiko’s WATCHES. That’s what it’s supposed to be about, right? The watches?

But either way I have owned 3 other GS's (back before they got popular) and never had this issue. The triplock does have a different feel with the extra gaskets though. |

You are right. They have not had the marketing machine Rolex has been fueling for the last 50 years. Rolex has done it so well anyone on the street will tell you they make the most durable watch in the business. And that person has never owned one.

Love it, but it's too expensive with 5.500,--. That's GS territory!

Yeah. I don’t get the pricing strategy of Seiko lately. The limited Willard rerelease is right up my alley, but I could buy two originals in great condition for what they’re selling it for... https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/se...33-introducing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The pricing for the SLA033 is in line with what the SLA025 was last year, and the SLA017 was the year before (maybe incrementally higher each time?).
I think the new LX Land, Sea, Air series look amazing, and if I can't get my hands on an SLA033, I may pick up one of the SNR025 Flightmaster GMTs (black/blue bezel with red GMT Hand). I think they're super cool, plus I know the size and how it works on my wrist thanks to the similar shape of the SBDX017. As far as the pricing for the new SD LX series, I think a lot of that is the actual Spring Drive movement and the titanium case. Yes, Seiko is moving this series slightly up market, but also I think the quality is going to be there and on par with GS offerings. I'm stoked, definitely looking forward to seeing them at my AD come July. |

Totally agree. No one bats an eye on a $10k Rolex Sub but a comparable quality Seiko at half the price garners groans. Crazy times for WIS. Seiko all the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the point is that the special editions aren’t dramatically superior in movement and finish etc. We’re talking prices that are more than 10x what a typical turtle sells for. Is it 10x the watch? I don’t think so. It just feels like gimmicky marketing to me. Don’t get me wrong, I still want one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The SLA033 will retail for AUD$7,000.
Its really priced high for it to be a justified purchase for me. I've got the SLA017 and its brilliant and proportioned very well for me coming with both rubber strap and steel bracelet. The SLA033 seems to have a only 19mm rubber strap but on a wider case of 45mm. It seems a little disproportionate. At the same time, the SLA033 has aesthetically quite narrow hands and lume slivers in the hands, that just don't resonate with me.

I kind of like this but 10600 is steep. Not saying it’s not worth it but I have to think about it. I like that is Ti and find the case and bracelet cool.

Yes ! this one I'd like to see in the flesh... dial reminds me a little of cork floor tiles Iin a prior bathroom, but I know how a static picture rarely does justice to a GS dial... Does grand Seiko really have any interest in "eating Rolex's lunch" ? Do they really have a marketing problem ? They seem to be doing just fine as they are, I doubt anyone is ever going to buy a GS for bragging rights down the pub. If only a few people are turned on to them, they might be OK with the role of the cool, WIS underdog, turning out very high quality, attainable, reasonably priced watches.

A lot of cool watches from Seiko this year. I have to balance price with desire and on occasion I will let my passion for a watch get in front of the money. The SLA033 maybe one of those watches that will either do it for me immediately or never. From the photographs it will but I will have to see it in the metal.

Time and tide has some nice pics going up. The sbgy003 is starting to pique my interest. Can’t get a case back like that on anything under 30k much less 10k.

And just fyi. The sla017 was $3,250 US. The sla025 was around $5k. So the sla033 is right in the middle. $4250 too expensive. Should’ve been closer to the sla017 price. But it’s pretty dang sweet looking on the wrist.

As for pricing of the new LX models, I am reading the following on another forum which sums it up pretty well imo
>>From a price perspective, I suppose the question is whether you see these as expensive Prospexes, or conversely, much more affordable Grand Seiko SBGA231s. When compared to the latter, which has a virtually identical movement and a similar titanium case, they're all over a thousand dollars more affordable, and in some cases, two thousand<< However, I am not sure, if the SD movements are the GS variant or the cheaper Seiko version. |

The 5R is the original automatic SD movement used in the SNR models and Anantas from 2005–2012/13, released to select international markets, paving the way for the officially exported Grand Seikos in 2010. Not sure what fundamental differences there are between them and the 9R versions in the GSes, but it’s minimal at most — finishing aside, possibly. |
