Okay, cool. I got the wrist band off and the serial number was right there.

It's X495929. The model number of the watch is 15238 if that helps.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Which means the watch is a 1991.

That makes sense. My uncle definitely got the watch around that time, but I wasn't sure if it was bought new. Thanks again.

You've got the solid gold Date watch

That model number translates to the late model version of the 18K solid gold Date model with the solid gold riveted bracelet.

It was not a big seller and it's likely that case was stamped and left empty for a period of time, so the sale date may or may not be the early 90's.

The '15XXX' is the model designation for the 34mm Date. The '2' indicates a sapphire rather than plastic crystal. The '3' designates the solid gold fluted bezel and the '8' indicates solid 18K gold.

It has the 3135 movement, same as the slightly larger 36mm Datejust.

All in all, quite a valuable find.

Enjoy and don't sell it, if you have the funds you should get a service on it, given you have owned it for a decade it could do with some oil and a light polish and it will look like the day it left the store. It is not current fashion given the trend to bigger watches, but for most on the forum this is a classic Rolex piece, and one most of us would like to have in our collection.
