Thanks OP for the great writeup.
Each time I see a well taken shot of the 116600, I think about my 14060M that has been unworn and in the bank for an year, and remind myself that 1 black dial Rolex diver is enough. Let's see how long this conviction lasts. |

Like a Sub ought to look
Was reading this review again and decided to add.
I came so close to getting the SubC no date. In fact, I had decided on the SubC and was having the bracelet fitted when I asked to see the DSSD and SD4C just to kill time. The Deep Sea was as I expected, too big and heavy for my taste. But the SD . . . oh my! When the dealer brought the SubC back after fitting I put both on my wrist and DANG! I liked the SD much better. The SD's case sitting next to the SubC on my wrist was a much better look for me. The squareness of the SubC case was really noticeable next to the SD. In fact, the SubC looked larger while the SD looked, well, . . . like a Sub ought to look. Since, this would be my only Rolex (in fact, my daily 24/7) I ended up getting the SD4C. And to think I had already committed, in my mind, to the SubC and only tried the SD because I was waiting for the fitting. I almost missed it . . . And that would have been a shame! |

I missed this review when it was originally posted over a year ago but it is certainly worth a bump. Even more interestingly, the OP's observations and conclusions exactly matches mine, as I've owned and moved both the DSSD and SubC (never owned the Pelagos). Having said that, I still think the DSSD is an awesome watch and definitely worth having in the collection.

What I like about the SD4000 is that it's under the radar.. most people don't wear a sea dweller.. it's engineered beautifully as well. I like the lack of cyclops and "overly engineered" aspect of the piece as well. if I have the chance to pick up a pre-worn Sea Dweller (even the older models) instead of a used SubMariner.. I will definitely pick up the sea dweller for its history and originality (that we don't see them everyday).
