1665 DRSD Service Question

Hi all,

New to the forum and trying to compile some research from you experts and determine the best service path for this watch and how to care for it going forward. As of the end of March, Dallas no longer accepts walk in service and I'm hesitant to put it in the mail. I've regrettably banged up the crystal as well. I've got a M1665/0 bought off the classifieds in the '80s serial 211xxxx. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks in advance

Contact a local AD about servicing, if they don't do it in house they will take care of sending it to an RSC for you.

Last summer I brought my Tudor Ranger to a local Rolex AD for service, their in house watch maker did not service Tudors so they took care of sending my watch to the closest RSC, provided me with paperwork on the spot so if anything happened I had a paper trail. A few weeks later they sent me an email from the RSC with a quote for the servicing and suggested repairs, I responded with what I servicing I wanted, 3 weeks later I got a call to come pick up my watch & pay for said servicing. In total it was a 6 week turn around.

I would imagine your local AD would do the same.

With it being vintage I would find a good independent. Ridley seems to very reputable. I haven’t worked with him directly but a solid CW21 independent would be the way to go.

A good independent would be fine. I think Phillip Ridley is in that area and he comes highly recommended

nice Mk1 dial that you dont see often. independent yes, not an AD unless you want to lose out on the original bits that they may replace. make sure you discuss in detail what you would want done. I would source a better insert than the one on it.
Pls post updates if you manage to get it pampered.

I’d replace:
crown and tube with period correct versions 24-700 / 7000
The insert with a mk2 long 5
A new domed crystal, would recommend a D19 from true dome

I appreciate all the input. I'll get with Ridley and discuss the suggestions mentioned and provide updates throughout.

I'd do everything most mentioned, except I'd do everything to keep the original plexi if possible, they can be polished pretty deep to get dinks out. Not keen on aftermarket plexi's tbh, even if they've 'been to college', so to speak.
