PP 5235R or Lange 1

I have been building myself up all year to buy a ALS Lange 1 (Rose Gold), however I have just fallen in love with the PP 5235R. Now I just can't make my mind up...

Whilst they are very different, I like the unusual dials n both of them. The PP size is perhaps more suited to my wrist size, but the Lange 1 in an iconic watch I have wanted for years.

If I opt for the PP I really don't want to regret my decision...

Hmmmm... decisions.....???

(Note - I only buy new and I'm not bothered about losing value as I do not plan to sell (hopefully that will not be necessary)).

I'm not a fan of the PP (or regulators), and I own a Lange 1, so that's the bias out of the way.

If the Lange 1 is too small, perhaps look at the Grande Lange 1?

Either way, buy what you like most. They're all great watches.

I have had similar patek and Lange

I started with the Lange 1 and found it small, went into different pateks and finally I am very happy with the grand lange 1 mp. You will not regret the Lange.

Another vote for ALS.

Probably Lange's jumping second is a closer comparison to the Patek regulator.

With Lange and other German watch company's Bauhaus design, you either love their design or you don't. The aesthetics of Swiss watch companies are quite different.

Over the years, I have tried on over a dozen Lange watches on my wrist and although they are well made watches, Lange watches never gave me the same emotional connection I have with my Patek watches.

At the end of the day, get the one that will bring a smile to your face

Yep, Lange1 between these two. Solid, coherent, well put together watch in my opinion.

Nice to have the choice. Good luck.

A lot of love for the Lange so far - I think this is going to be the right decision.

I would go with Grand Lange 1. Obviously depending on your wrist size but definitely ALS over PP regulator (even though a cool watch). Buy in the secondary market though even new you should get substantial discount.

What size wrist do you have? I'm considering a Lange 1 and have a small wrist but curious to see what others have to say.

Between these two, the Lange for me. Possibly grand.

If it were between a 5170 and 1815 chronograph... oh man I couldn’t decide then, but would lean to the Patek :)

Debating between the same two but the Lange in rose good. I’ve tried both on and they seem like they fit pretty well but I have 6 in wrists so worries the 5235 will wind up wearing too big.

You mentioned you fell in love with the 5235 - go for it. Happened to me as well when i went in to actually purchase a 5524. Tried it and fell in love with it. It is now the nicest piece in my collection.

The Patek Regulator is an amazing watch. My friend owns one and the case is beautiful. The dial is one that keeps revealing things the more you look at it, the etched Patek wording, the contrast between the hands and the dial, and the stepped sundial registers. It really is a work of art up close.

Between these two the Patek. Now, a blue dial L1 would take the cake.

Looks great! I am somewhat surprised given your wrist size, is it comfortable?

Definitely the regulator. More interesting unique movement from Patek, fits great on the wrist also an AC and more complicated than the Lange and very accurate. One of the most interesting pieces from Patek in a while along with the 5212. I don’t find the Lange dials capture my attention for long though the movement finishing is nice and it doesn’t wear comfortably on the wrist.

I would disagree that Langes are "Bauhaus" in design philosophy. Bauhaus would be more Nomos' character than Lange.

ALS is very much more on the traditional side of design, with stepped out lugs, traditional font choices, and sometimes complex dial layouts.

Nomos is clean, simple, austere, thin, long, etc.

The 5235 is an annual calendar with a design philosophy much more modern than the Lange 1. It's really a choice between an apple and an orange. If you are in the mood for an orange, get the orange.

I personally like the warmth of the Lange 1. The PP is very sleek and modern, quite the opposite of what PP is usually known for in their dress watches, and probably why the original white gold version was so controversial (plus PP having to work out the kinks in their movement, which incorporated almost all of PP advance research components they had at the time).

5235-r

A recent picture in Paris, Place Vendôme, for an appointment to PP Salon.

I love how understated the watch is, the PP logo is hardly noticeable.

While I love the 5235-R, I tried the rose gold version at The Salon, the dial is stunning.

5235r is one of my favorite pp references, and micro rotor is to die for.
Love that piece

The Lange is pretty thick compared to the Patek
