5168G - Success, Demand and Price
Hey guys,
I am curious to hear your opinion about the future demand of the 5168G and its potential success. Will it be as hard to get as the 5711 blue? Will we see prices on the grey market above retail (on chrono24 it gets offered for around 10k more than retail)? Does anyone have numbers on how much they will produce or on how many will get shipped? I heard that just a handful will hit certain regional markets. |

The future grey market prices will depend on the supply, if Patek limits the supply it is likely to command a premium on the grey market. When 5960A was released it was selling above the MSRP on the grey market, then Patek flooded the market with 5960A and now generous discounts are available at ADs for this piece.

Here's one selling just slightly over retail:
I'd jump on it while it is still available https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=560135 |

I see this no different than the 5167R aside from a size increase. IMO after a year it should be readily available and discounted. Being a new release it will probably stay close to list for the first two or three each AD receives. Had this configuration been made in SS then I believe demand would be insane.

As stated above it all depends on production numbers. As we've seen with the 5524, Patek could decide to limit output below demand. Or as we've seen with the 5170 they could produce more than demand. Time will tell.

The Grey price is more than ludicrous IMO. It's not limited and would bet can get on a list just about anywhere in first, second, or third position since it won't be in high demand being a non complicated PM at $40k.

It'll do well. I'd be surprised if it sells for above list for more than a year or so. I'm glad to see the aquanaut line be revamped!
