Is the case of this datejust too wrecked?

Hi there,

I am fairly new to this forum and am wondering if the case of this date just is very worn, or if it is in decent shape? The lugs appear to have lost some of their original shape.

Thanks!

Are you buying it?

Fine looking old DJ. It's bad a polish or two but it certainly isn't trashed.

You'll see a lot worse than that in terms of polished lugs. I would not hesitate if I wanted to buy, those can be cleaned up and frankly don't look too bad to me as-is.

The most troubling thing in those pictures is that raggedy thumbnail IMO. Come on man, get a pair of nail clippers!

No that 1601 is pretty good, I don't think it's lost much metal from new. Can't deny its been worn quite a few years as the fluted bezel & crown knurling has rounded off smoother than when brandnew but the case is fat enough.

These vintage pieces from the 1970s are svelte and slimline, don't compare it to modern versions with obese bloated lugs.

I prefer looking at Elvis in his early prime

I don't think that watch has ever been polished. The photos aren't great but the lines from the polish to the satin on the lugs would cut your finger...and I don't see ANY rounding of the flutes...just looks like somebody wore it.

Buy it at the 'right' price - that will come up a treat with a professional polish.
Will almost certainly need a Service as well as it's appearance suggests it has not seen an RSC (Rolex Service Centre) recently. You will need to factor the cost of the Service in to your offer.
What's the 'right' price? I'll leave that to more experienced people here.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I think I will purchase this watch if I can get it for less than $3000 USD.
