116234 Power reserve

I think (?) my 116234 is lacking the full power reserve that was designed into the watch. The watch is about one year old and still under warranty, but I hate to go through the hassle of sending it to the SC if it's not really necessary.

So the question is, if I wind it with say 40+ winds and set it down (unworn), how long should I expect to see it run before it quits? Other than the fact that it loses about 2 or 3 seconds a day, the watch works fine.

Your thoughts?

3135 should run approximately 48 hours.

Do these watches share the same movement?

The movement is called the 3135 and it's been in a few models over the years. 5 digit subs, 6 digit subs, datejusts etc.

On a full manual wind and thats 40 full crown turns clockwise only they only wind on the forward turn. Then off wrist should run between 39-48 hours give or take a hour or so for all 31 series movements.

Well I got about 29 hours with a 40+ wind and then laying it down with no further movement. What is this indicative of. and I assume this means a trip to the SC in Dallas for this watch?

Well if you did wind it clockwise only and at least 40 full 360 degree turns, if only 29 hours its down on power-reserve,could be a mainspring problem. Or a problem in the spring barrel making it slip before it's fully wound up or something simple like a loose screw.

Thanks, I think I will try this again as I want to be sure I'm not short changing the number of winds. How about taking it to the max where you feel a little resistance? My 5th Rolex and don't recall any issues like this with prior models. It will actually stop while on the wrist so that seems very un Rolex to me.

You cannot over-wind you could wind it 800 times with no problem, when the mainspring is fully wound up a mechanism in the spring-barrel just lets it slips.

Yep

Otherwise wearing the watch would even cause overwinding as the rotor is constantly moving, that is why they invented the slipping mainspring/barrel system.
