What do you think of this 1680
Hi All
I rarely if ever do this...i.e. link to a live sale. But this 1680 looked to be a good price. And I have never purchased vintage - save for SEIKO on eBay. The seller has good feedback on several Rolex (Vintage and otherwise) models going back a year or so. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-ROLEX-S...0/182674101935 Dial looks pretty clean save for a mark on the 6:00 marker...replacement insert, but thats not a biggie. Thanks Folks. |

Did you also notice the bottom crown guard? Both crown guards have some clear evidence of somewhat heavy polishing but the bottom crown guard more so.

Price wise, it feels in the ball park - a bit low from elsewhere. What do you think of overall value - assuming everything is in order. |

Looks like a mk2 dial to me.....the bottom crown guard is a bit overpolished IMO. So is the clasp on the bracelet.....the coronet is losing its distinctive sharpness....a tad overpolished but not detrimental.....I don't think the lugs look that bad....seeing how close springbars are to the hole isn't always a clear measure because they lose tension over the years and sometimes can look like that though the lug isn't necessarily thin. You know about the service insert already, dial seems to be relatively nice shape minus the darkening @ 6 o' clock. Says it's the correct date wheel but no pics so can't be absolutely sure......bracelet has VD clasp code.....that's more like the late 70's so it's a replacement at some point. I don't think it's all bad, not a bad example.....price seems more or less in line IMO.

I have personally warned so many TRFers about staying away from eBay. I am surprised I even considered this one. This seller does not take returns...and was not terribly amiable when I asked why. I am sure he / and many sellers get scammed and / or harassed by lookiloos...but still. I probably won't go forward. It's just that I have seen similar models prices about 500-1,000 more with known / rock solid sellers (brick & mortar). |

- very thin lower crown guard
- dial damage at 6. The 2 o'clock plot also looks chipped - lugs are ok, but nothing to write home about - bracelet/clasp has seen better days - replacement insert. Pass for me! Are you in the market for a 1680? I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I see any nice ones for sale. |

Correct. Definitely a later service dial and not to be confused with the earlier service dial. The dial coronet tells all.

If someone was looking for a Submariner 1680 offered for sale by a forum member, the one below seems to be a nice example.

Thanks to the pros. I was just comparing the positioning of the L under the coronet and the font/positioning of the 660 from some pics on vrf...upset that photobucket took away so many resources. Thanks for confirming it's a service dial gang and of course stand corrected.
