Thanks Leo for your great comments!,here is a little story,I went to a place called Barry Island yesterday,by the seaside, with my son and mother,i wore the watch too,big mistake,i just couldn't relax at all,i couldn't rest my arm on a table for fear of scratching the bracelet, there were big crowds of people brushing past us,and i feared someone would knock it,my mother was worried that someone would try to steal it at the fair....and so on!,i thought i'd enjoy the experience, but its just to scary for me to wear out!,i am just going to wear it around the house and at family events only!

That's fantastic. I'm glad you kept it as original as possible. I consider it an heirloom first and a Rolex second. Well done.

I can't get over how fantastic that watch looks. Your Granfather took incredible care of it, and now you are too. Lucky watch to have found its way into your family's caring hands.

Beautiful!!!!! BTW, your grandfather looked very dapper!!!! People back then understood how to dress. I would insure the watch and keep it under lock and key when you're not wearing it.

Do people really jump in to a 1 year old thread with replies without reading the thread?

FYI, the pictures are in post #38

Hello Sam!
I have been reading this thread with much interest.
You got a very beautiful watch, with a strong sentimental story behind.
You have it very nicely restored to its original splendor, and at a very reasonable cost I feel.
I wish you will be enjoying it so much now! Of course I well understand your feelings about the possibility of scratching its shiny look now, but worst of all of someone stealing it.
I can well understand, as I am a vintage user, and here the security issue is very bad now. Anyway, I try to enjoy my old (and new) watches wearing them in special occassions, or when I know Iīm staying in more secure places.

I feel you should wear your watch and enjoy it so much, reminding you your grand father everytime you take a glance to it (very often I imagine!) and then pass to your son, as a beloved heirloom to keep in your family.
Those pictures of your Grandpa, and other documentation, is a nice backing to hold near a case where you can guard your beautiful watch.

Hope you wear it in good health, and thank you so much for sharing this story with us!
Best cordial regards, Abel.

Hello MonBK:

It is iteresting to note, that sometimes I find new comments about a thread I started several months, or even more than a year ago!
In anycase, I find very pleasing that someone refloats an old post of mine, and writes to say he enjoyed it, and I try to answer with my thanks.

In this case, I had missed reading this particular post, because I have no time to read everything in this so large and interesting Forum. I miss a lot of things here I guess (unfortunately).

But today I found it, and read it, and got very moved about it, and couldnīt help but to make a comment.

It is a curious fact, but it happens all the time, and see nothing bad about it I think. Just a personal comment and point of view, of course!
Thank you for reading, and best cordial regards, Abel.

That is a really beautiful watch made more so by the great history behind it.

I love the "after" photos with the pictures used as backdrops. It looks like the kind of story a Rolex should have.

Well done!!!

Beautiful watch. Reading the thread from start to finish brought a smile to my face; both because of the beauty of the watch and how much you obviously value it.
