First Post - First Rolex Submariner 6536/1
I received this a little over a year ago from a friend when she was cleaning out her garage/storage. She had put it in a box with some other items she was giving me. I promptly took the box of items home and put it away in storage, never opening the Rolex box up and looking inside.
A couple of months ago I found the Rolex box thinking it might be worth a couple of dollars. When I opened it up I saw the watch inside with the band separate from the watch. I attached the band and to my surprise the second hand started moving. I noticed on the back of the watch that it was engraved to her husband, so I gave them a call to let them know that I had his watch. They told me to go ahead and keep it as a gift from them. He had received the watch for his high school graduation. I took the band off and can read "6535 1" and on the 6 o'clock side "155xxx" So from what I dug up it appears to be a 1956 watch. It appears to me judging by photos to be a small crown. From other posts and internet reading I guess this watch qualifies to be referred to as a 007 or Bond Rolex. It was in what I assume was the original box and there was the guarantee pamphlet inside. There is no numbering that I could find on the box. I have not had the back off, so I haven't taken any photos or recorded the information. I hope to have that done pretty soon. The "spotting" on the dial looks more prominent in the photos than in real life. From other vintage watch photos that appears to be a normal occurrence. Now on to the photos |

Does you friend have any idea how much her garage cleaning gift is worth?
I dare say most people have no idea about such things.

You are one lucky chap out there to get your hands on such a priceless watch...i think you should keep it and better restore it and wear it in good health.

Thanks, I was surprised that they gave it to me. They both currently wear Rolex Watches, but I'd guess the rarity of this one wasn't know to them.
My intent when I started researching to see what the watch was, was to probably look to sell it or consign it at a jewlery store. When I read about the rarity and the "Bond" link I decided I'd sell my motorcycle instead :) |

Pretty nice 10K gift :-) Unless you are starving I would have the movement serviced, that's all, and wear it in the intent it was given. As a nice present from someone who liked you. M

Totally agreed. If that were my piece, I'd have the movement serviced and leave everything else alone. There's nothing that anyone could do to that watch cosmetically to make it look any better than it does right now. Great story! |

Thanks for the positive comments! I was happy to share the story :) I also tried to put enough information I dug up about the watch in the post for anyone in the future trying to figure out what they may have got. The night prior to my post, I had absolutely no knowledge about Rolexs, nor how cool a watches history could be. Now to see about getting the movement serviced
