Are cracked bezel inserts repairable?
Title says it all. Are there any experts out there that can fix a single crack (split) in a submariner/SD bezel insert?
Thanks! |

It isn't by any chance for a certain meters first red sub which could do with some TLC, is it?
I've yet to use his services, but Michael Young of Hong Kong has a reputation of being the "bracelet magician", so perhaps he could also fix your bezel with a few flicks of his wand. |

are you referring to cracked aluminium or the ceramic bezels? and where abouts? generally I have seen cracks at the 12 o clock position where the lume dot / pip is.

I can't imagine anybody successfully, and satisfactorily, repairing a cracked bezel insert, either aluminum or ceramic.

The ceramic bezels tend to be a little better at disguising cracks for some reason. Have seen complete splits somewhat "repaired" and not obvious to the naked eye. The aluminum ones - don't fare so well.

I should have specified that is a 1978 1665 bezel insert. Aluminum I think.

In theory an alu bezel could be welded using a TIG welder but repairing the anodizing would be difficult. I imagine the result would look worse than the original damage and more expensive than a replacement.

The aluminum inserts are way too thin to try welding.
If the crack goes through the pearl hole, you could try a small amount of super-glue and replace the pearl back in at the same time. I think the pearl could act as "bridge" across the hole and make the insert a solid piece once more... Good luck.
