Rolex home lockbox for safekeeping?

My ultra safe storage lockbox consists of my collection being on open display because I pay a lot of money for insurance and have no need to secure them beyond locking the door of my house...and I enjoy looking at them at all times :)

my car is insured so i dont need a really big lock box.

I have a safe, but its not really for watches


Honestly, unless im getting a giant discount why would i inconvenience myself in order to limit the risk of the company i pay to cover a loss?

its one thing to put them away when you go on vacation or even away for a weekend. Day to day if my watches are put away im lazy and i dont wear them in the morning.

Somone is almost always home at our house though and we have a pretty good security system. Its way loud and two of my neighbors (that i actually know)work from home. So they would hear it for sure. No way someone gets in undetected and gets out without a ton of eyeballs on them.... if they can then a safe wouldn't protect me anyway as thats a pro job

No need to be nervous if you have appropriate insurance. I have $200k of watches sitting out at my house and if they are stolen, I’ll get a check for the amount they’re insured for within 7 days.

Have two larger fireproof safes for my other hobby. Watches share a shelf with important papers.

Bolted to wall and floor with a separate alarm. My other hobby is has more value than my watches.

No safe can ever fully defeat a burglar. However the thicker and heavier your safe the longer it will slow down a burglar and delay them from obtaining what is inside.

I think you have been given good advise. Heavy duty safes will protect your goods from all but a professional thief as long as someone isn't home and forced to open it. 99% of routine burglars are in and out in minutes.

Whatever the protections, insurance is your best safeguard to replace everything if necessary.

My FIL jeweler has a 2500 lb safe at his shop. Probably not practical for a home, but it's like a damn fortress.

While true, a prominent, cheap floor safe bolted to the floor serves as a great time waster for the burglars. Something to delay them 15 minutes or so - as the home alarm is blaring and the cameras are recording and police dispatched.

Inside that safe they’d find some worthless fake stocks and bonds, and 2 fake Rolexes. All told this should cost less than $500.

Meanwhile your actual valuables are in a disguised place - like a laundry room wicker hamper or under a sofa.

I strongly discourage use of a lockbox. My home was burglarized a few months ago, and my lockbox containing my passport, Social Security card, and other valuables was taken so easily that the dust on the shelf around it was undisturbed.

A local police officer told me never ever store fine jewelry in any bedroom or kitchen
He keeps his watches and fine jewelry in the laundry room -he said gone are the days when they steal your tv and stereos-they are now focussed on cash and jewelry hence the bedrooms and kitchen (cash in a cash jar)
