Incoming (Grail)

It’s funny how tastes change. I remember being in Vegas in 2007. I quickly dismissed the 16610LV sub in the display case, considered the 16610LN as more versatile but thought it wore too big. Walked out with a two tone 34mm ‘Date’. (Yes, that happened. Ugh.) Loved it until my wife bought me a 40mm Hamilton and then it was all over for the two tone Date. It became too small. Only Rolex I ever sold. I do regret selling it a little but I couldn’t have purchased the 116710LN at that time had I not sold it.

I do love the 5 digits. They are perfect for my smaller wrist size and (very) conservative look.

There’s a little more to story...

I dropped by my local AD a couple of weeks ago and he had a 126710 BLNR with my name on it. There were two problems. First, I don’t have unlimited funds and the list I kept in my head placed the Kermit as my next acquisition. Second, I already have a 116710LN and, although I think the BLNR is an absolute stunner, on my wrist it looked like someone had put Christmas lights on my LN. It was gorgeous but it looks better on you than it does on me, and it would put off my hopes for a Kermit for a couple of years (at least). Flipping was not an option as, among other reasons, my AD is a friend and a client. I walked...

I know what your thinking (i’m in the future too) the remorse was almost immediate. I think I actually sobbed for moment.

While I hate the idea of paying grey prices (probably 2.5x what the watch retailed for in 2007) when the Kermit showed up at my favorite grey, with ALL paperwork and a fresh RSC service, I immediately pulled the trigger.

The watch is in great condition. A light factory polish is evident not so much on the lugs but on the SEL and, of course, clasp. Doesn’t bug me too much. It looks terrific to me! I am very happy!

If I’m beings honest, this watch will get plenty of wear, but I suspect my 16570 polar Explorer II will probably still be my daily. My taste is not quite mainstream. I’ve had the Explorer II 25 years and its pleasantly (heavily) worn in.

With any luck (if I make it another 25 years on this planet) I’ll post pics of my Kermit all beat up too!!

Solid collection!

Is that a 4Runner you're driving? I think we need to start a "Post a pic of your Rolex with you 4Runner/LandCruiser" thread...

Very well done all around. Congrats on a great piece. The Kermit will always be the one that got away for me. Had one for about a year back in 2008. Sold it for what I paid, which felt good at the time. However, that’s less then 30% of today’s prices so I just don’t ever see it coming back for me

it’s a piece with a lot of charm in person

Close! It’s my Taco! Had a 4Runner prior. I swear, I drove it for three years and traded it in for only slightly less than what I paid! I hope they never change the 4Runner.

I agree with your idea about a thread!

When my AD gave me the call for the BLNR I had to take a day to think about it. And even made a post it on here for feedback lol. Long story short I couldn’t pass on it, and glad you got the watch you wanted.

Looks great!! Enjoy!

I love my Kermit and am glad with my decision, but... that BLNR, in my humble opinion, is one of the best looking models of the modern era!

I haven’t wore my 116610LN ever since I got this in October lol. It’s my first watch with the jubilee bracelet and loving it. Enjoy the Kermit! Awesome watch imo
